Is this a new tab replacing the old P7500 10.1?
Why is it called 5100?

Because it's not an upgrade from the P7500, the only big difference is it's actually running on ICS out of the box.

Forget these, we want the Nexus 7! :D

I would love to have this available for us to order...but the fact that it has no 3G capabilities...well, Google het sy eie gat toegesteek met daai besluit. No reason really for the networks to carry and support it if it aint gonna connect to our network.

Only way this might work is if we bundle it with a Vodafone router...but we tried that with the Playbook...and it did not work all that well. Not sure if it was because of that or because...erm...well...the playbook sucked balls lol

Agreed
But why 5100 and not something like 7530?
I see the only difference apart from the OS is the mem card slot in the new one and a downgraded VGA secondary cam and chipset types.

Ive always used rule of thumb, the higher the model/part number, the newer and more revised it would be.

The specs on the Galaxy tabs are ****. Except the p6800. Sad. And Vodacom already has the p6800 anyway.

ocleroux: Sorry, I realise this is off-topic, but do you think there's any chance that Vodacom might ever start selling Google Chromebooks on contract?

i doubt it. south africa is still way to windose and ms bef@k. we did have the webbook that came with ubuntu installed. did not do all to well in the stores that i am involved with.

untill south africans get rid of their ms shackles and realise that there are other viable options out there...these kind of products wont do well.

To be fair though, most of the reviews I read said that the Vodafone Webbook was pretty bad. If I recall correctly, it had an 800mhz ARM processor, ie roughly the same specs as the original Motorola Defy smartphone(!).

By contrast, most of the reviews of the latest-generation Chromebooks have been good. Apparently they're fast, well-built, and Google has made the interface a lot more polished and easy to use.

I have a suspicion that if one of the more forward-thinking cellular networks could sell them for a subsidised price on a contract - perhaps bundled with a 2gb of data for R300 or so per month - they would do well. Just a thought! Maybe you could suggest it to someone at the company! :)

I bought the P3100 tablet in Dubai, and have been using it for the past 3 weeks in Sri Lanka.

Getting the correct APN settings for a local ISP was a bit if a pain, but, afterwards, the tablet worked fine.

Battery life is v good .. The camera isn't great, but, Internet connectivity is fine.

U can attach a mouse via Bluetooth, or even thru a USB cable, which is a huge plus, over the IPad.

I am back in S.A next week. No doubt I will have fun, getting the right settings, from one of the ISPs.

I will update etc.

It really is so easy. You simply create a APN....and inside you set your APN to "internet" without the quotes....save and viola. This is for Vodacom....cant speak for the other operators. Should be similar.

Thanks.

Went into a Cell-C shop, RICA'd a new sim, and it worked instantly.

V pleasantly surprised. Settings, are as you suggested : APN - Internet

Will try other providers tomorrow.
