Samsung unveils first Android Go smartphone

Although nobody expects flagship internals from an entry level device, 8GB of internal storage and 1GB RAM is simply pathetic in this day and age. Samsung could have least upped the ante to 16GB & 2GB respectively, charged the same price and still coined the same profit. It looks to me they released this thing under pressure because everybody else is doing it.

Nonsence. If Vodacom Kicka 4 can work with 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM, why Samsung cannot do it on 1GB RAM?

Samsung is certainly targeting Huawei Y3 2018 with similar specs, but the article failed to mention that.

1gb ram nice. good work samsung. why not 0,5gb

ROFL

If the world's computing power was left to Sajunky, we'd be left with 8" floppies and a 1Mhz CPU.
Perhaps you should give a reasonable answer (based on my post) why you made these personal derogatory remarks.

[Reported as personal attack anyway]

How is his post a personal attack? it’s quite an accurate reading of your belief and attitude that phones didn’t need to progress beyond the iPhone 4 and anything newer or more powerful is just a wasteful extravagance.

You’ve only said that a hundred times before...

Phones like Huawei Y3 2018 or even Smart Kicka 4 have their own marketplace. It is a reason why Android GO had been released in first place.

Now please make you first contribution in this thread and say what was wrong in my post (if any). You you don't, these are just personal derogatory remarks.

Calm down there, people saying you have a reputation for championing outdated and low powered rubbish phones is being derogatory to the crappy phones, not you.

You sound quite angry tonight...

Well 1GB is considered the max amount of RAM Go is aimed at, anything above that should use the normal android system.

I agree. However while 2GB was good enough for Android 7, Oreo brings new challenges. If you read user experience on Android 8 2GB phones, many complain on sluggishness in default configuration. Not in my case, but I made some tuning immediately after unpacking. With 3GB there is no such complains, so I would rather raise the bar to 3GB.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with 1gb of ram, this isn't a cancerous ram chewing windows based system, it is a linux based OS, unless you want to play half-life 2 on your device.1gb ram is perfectly fine.Samsung is still selling devices with 1.5gb ram even, devices are more then capable in their own right, besides the google store if it has information on your device, will tell you if and when a app isn't compatible with your device any ways the ram issue isn't important.
It's android not windows, 1gb ram gets used far, far, far more efficiently...

Meanwhile I am holding a phone running it on 2GB and have no lag while in multi window while also playing music in tbe backgorund...

You're probably using a Samsung with their terrible skin.

Yup. While it wasnt ideal I had a Samsung Pocket Plus with 512MB RAM running KitKat (think thats Android 4). Was slow now and then, but worked.

The bigger issue for me was the limited space for Apps.

My old LG had 8GB space and it filled up quickly. It might be less of an issue now that you can combine internal and external storage on the newer androids. (Not sure if you can do this on Android GO though?)

Do you mean android one? Or do they have their own implementation of android go?
Android Go is a cut-down version of Android, loaded with all the Google Lite apps.

Android Go is Android Oreo or Pie, just cut-down, so should have the ability. Does depend on Vendor though I think.

Eventually the 1gb ram devices is going to become more and more like the 512mb ram devices of yester year.SA is just playing catch up with the 2gb ram devices, I think by this time next year the market should have shifted majority of devices over two 2gb ram as a min. That said I haven't really encountered an issue with having seriously run out of ram, with chrome at one point I had 6 tabs open, it's beyond what the average use would need, but was normal then able to do so.Ran some pretty demanding games as well, also without much issue, streaming works beautifully as a default test on all tablets I have, try and streaming a H264 video from various distances from the chrome and/or wecast and check for stuttering and such, surprisingly 1gb quad devices handle H264 content without issue, space is an issue with the content.

It's more a case of l33tism then any thing else, if you ask me.
