Here are two 19 inch LCD monitors I am trying to choose between:
1. Samsung 940BF
2. Acer 1951 DS
I’m interested because they both have the 2ms response time that I understand is what you must be looking for when you want to use it for gaming.

Which do you guys think is better or is there maybe something else I should be looking at (please same price range R2500 – R3000, lets not get carried away! :D )

Acer 1951 DS, there are a number of reasons but i dont have a list infront of me nor do i have the time to write them all out. I'll post in about 4 hours.

My friend has a 5ms 19" Samsung LCD & it has no problems with gaming & the quality is great

I know someone with a 940BF, great screen IMO, but I don't know how the Acer is, so cant really say which is the best

I was thinking of these things aswell:
actual display area (I saw a 940BF (switched off, only for display) and it just looked small somehow to me)
screen finish? (I've seen LCD's with a sort of matt finish and other with a gloss/shiny finish, if that makes any sense:confused: dont know what you call it)
I understand contrast and brightness are the same on the two models (rated but in reality?)

well ive seen a 12ms monitor with no ghosting

i think its a martketing gimmick to a point

i mean 12 8 2 ms all the same kuk if you ask me :)

i mean try the difference off 12ms vs 2 ms

Go with Samsung. Tried and tested brand in display range. Plus, it looks

and it is the opposite as "Person"

<trust his judgement / advice at your own peril>

I've got a Samsung LCD monitor and its really good. Its only got an 8ms response time but there is no ghosting in games.

I've got the samsung 930BF, so far its fantastic... Gaming a pleasure, brightness and contrast ratio excellent... Wish i had waited a week or two for the 940BF.:(

Oh, i would recommend samsung, not too shabby...;)

Thanks, if I dont have to worry about 2ms then that leaves me with a lot more options and alot more money to play with, shot

PS Ghosting, thats word I was looking for, now what term is a person refering to when a screen has a matt or a gloss finish? (saw a Sony monitor with the "gloss" finish once, man its images are beautiful, beautiful price too though!) *must be a bugger to keep clean*

I would recommend the Viewsonic VX922 - it is a very good gaming display and should be available at about R3000.

Yeah I would also go with the Samsung. I have a LCD from them (can't remember model number now) and it has been very reliable.

Also 2ms is a marketing gimmick as killadoob says...8ms should be more than enough for you...even if you're a heavy gamer. Also look at Viewsonic although I'm not sure if it's value for money anymore because of recent price increases.

Noone can tell the diff between 8ms, 4ms and 2ms responce times someone once told me he reseached this and found that it doesnt really make a difference here because of our electicity supply frequency and 8ms is about all you get. I really dnt know how true this is.

Above-and-beyond the response time, you need to look at a few more factors as well. For frequent gaming, anything below 12ms is widely considered to be a satisfying experience.

You will also need to consider the contrast ratio, where 500:1 is decent. Then check the brightness rating, looking for 300 cd/m² or more
