SANDF budget cuts send Air Force into tailspin

Budget cuts across the SANDF means the Air Force is unable to fly, placing pilots at risk of losing specific qualifications, while money is being taken from training budgets elsewhere, to pay for operations and deployments.

The SA National Defence Force’s (SANDF) budget cuts have sent the SA Air Force (SAAF) into a tailspin, with experts warning of its imminent crash as its ageing aircraft gather dust and crew lose qualifications due to lack of flying time.

“SAAF faces a serious risk of losing combat abilities. At the current rate, SAAF will not be able to afford to renew its maintenance contract for the Gripen and Hawk,” according to Darren Olivier, defence expert and director at African Defence Review. “It is a bad situation unless something is done, they are going to lose their capabilities for good.”

Last week, the SAAF announced the grounding of the Silver Falcons based at Air Force Base Langebaanweg, saying this was in accordance with the amended regulations on disaster management to cancel SAAF events until further notice.

Does anyone have numbers on the amounts stolen in the last few years?
I know eskom is sitting at around 32billion Rands. Not sure if that could have covered the costs.

Abolish the SANDF. We've already surrendered to the statists and collectivists.

An airforce isn't much use if the government needs to fight against its own people. Boots on the ground is the priority.

A decent coast guard and some sort of border control is probably good enough for us these days.

Only good thing about this is that without an army, will be easier for people to hold politicians to account when the rioting begins after the jobs bloodbath that is happening

Its sad yes

But we dont need an air force, we aint under attack. And besides the money could be used elsewhere. Uplifting people's lives, better roads or at the very least a new cadre bmw

Please - SAAF hasn't been functional for some time now. Barely operational travesty doesn't even scrape the surface.

So we don't need the Air force to rescue people trapped on mountains?

We don't need the Air force to fight fires with their Oryx helicopters?

We don't need the Air force to do inshore patrols for illegal fishing? (A plane can cover more area than a boat can
and can inspect and capture video footage of vessels and co-ordinate interception by the Navy).

We don't need the Air force to do Search and Rescue when a ship sinks or someone goes missing?

We don't need the Air force to fly our ground troops and supplies quickly from one end of the country to another end or to go get much needed supplies from who knows where?

We don't need the Air force to go fetch people from a location where civil contractors (which are MUCH more expensive) refuse to go?

Also, many nations learned the f-ing hard way that you need an air force when your neighboring country goes belligerent. And it takes years to train someone to become proficient in these highly sophisticated machines.

Some people just can't think further than their fingers typing on a keyboard.
Snowflakes.

Start thinking a bit deeper than he surface people, it's not that hard to do.

(The above goes with the obvious provisio that the money spend by the Air force is spend correctly and the training is fit for purpose)
