Is anyone else having a problem with data connectivity in Sandton CBD?

I have full H+ signal on my phone, but speedtest.net fails often and when it works shows speeds in the 100kbps range. Anywhere else it works, at home, in Cape Town but in Sandton CBD there is little to no data throughput.

I have logged a call with the onlinesupport@cellc.co.za email address, tweeted CellC numerous times but have not even received a single response as yet.

Is anyone else having issues and have you had any response or resolution?

Thanks

Sandton CBD is horrible for any kind of 3G/HSDPA/EDGE connectivity. I've tested on both MTN and Vodacom networks, but no luck - it's just too congested methinks.

I live in Sandton and bought the cell c R1299 for 2gbx12months. Signal was fine when I had the previous cell c special but now the signal is horrible. Shows 3G on the ipad but when trying to run a speed test it either takes ages to find a nearby server or when it finds a server in Sandton, it takes ages to get to even run the ping - never mind even getting speeds.

Was in Bez Valley last night and got decent speeds on speedtest and could stream some trailers with little difficulty.

Can the Cell C rep on here maybe help?

I work in the Sandton CBD and have had exactly the same issue with MTN for ages - full 3G signal, no throughput. It sometimes even gets to the point where one can't even make a phone call - continual 'Network busy' or 'No Signal' errors, even though the phone is showing a full 3G signal. It does seem like the infrastructure is just permanently over-subscribed - hope a lot of people get LTE and leave the 3G alone so I can use it :)

See my thread around 2 down from yours. It seems to be a general thing with CellC. Especially at night. Wonder if they're even aware of it.

When I was on Vodacom (2 weeks ago) I didn't have this problem. I've only had the problem since porting to Cell C and it's only in Sandton CBD...anywhere else it seems to work perfectly which has allowed me to rule out device and settings.

The most frustrating thing is the CellC reps here don't respond (I have PM'd two of them) and the Cell C twitter reps dont respond.

You guys should really read the posts on here. It is not just Sandton...it is the whole of Gauteng. Other guys from the Western Cape also complained. I live in Centurion and it is woeful. It worked well for the past week but started up again, round about yesterday. IMO, it is because the CellC system can't handle the traffic in certain areas due to the amount of users on CellC. Every one now is going to CellC for 3G connection. This will be my view until they make a proper statement to the contrary.

Ping statistics for 173.194.34.152:[google.co.za]
Packets: Sent = 810, Received = 769, Lost = 41 (5% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 217ms, Maximum = 4498ms, Average = 515ms

And these are good stats at the moment.

Cell C here too, even with full signal h+ does nothing. I have to force my phone to gsm only (edge) before I can even send a WhatsApp. I think it's a bit better in the evening though, can't confirm right now.

Guys don't listen to the CellC representative. He/She is just feeding you a lot of bull to keep you content for the time being. Cell C keeps on asking for the same info in order to fool you in thinking that the problem is only experienced by individual people. I've been there and done that, bought the T-Shirt. This problem is widespread. I've been to their shop In Centurion Mall and they are experiencing the same problem. The had to admit that they do experience problems on their network. You can complete the form they provide you, but it will come to nothing. I alos have a reference number and nobody even phoned me.

CellC stop b!ll*****ting a b!ll*****ter.

No improvement a week later after getting two reference numbers.

CellC - if I was a contract user, I would be suing you for breach of contract.

BUT...I am a prepaid user, and will port my number back to Vodacom. It might cost double...but at least it works.

A Cell C Network Technician came out to my building and my worst fears confirmed. There is nothing wrong with the towers, but it's the building structure interfering with the signal. We tested outside of reception and then inside the building and the results were staggering. The solution: An in building amplifier...but that requires Cell C to invest capital and building management to agree etc.

Thanks Cell C - I appreciate getting the support and having someone come out to assess the situation, even if it can't be immediately solved.
