Toll price hikes for South Africa — how much more you will pay

The South African National Roads Agency's (Sanral) toll tariff increases, which will take effect from 1 March 2022, have been published.

Sanral's tariffs are adjusted annually and are determined based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from Statistics South Africa. The increase gazetted as of 11 February 2022 is 5%.

Yep that time..........sounds about right, more to come tomorrow.........

So for Western Cape. Hugenot Tunnel up R1.50, Class 2 is down, and then trucks class 3 and 4 is up a little.

Thats hardly an increase.

Then Vaal River Class 1 and 2 up, but class 3 and 4 is down.

This was last year

Haha the scams just keep on scamming.

The entire point of tolls initially is to recoup the fking cost of the project, not the maintenance. The maintenance in this case should all come from the fuel levy but apparently thats not enough of a scam for this government.

Still paying a toll for using some of these roads that were build over 30 years ago and should be completely recouped by now is a scam that apparently the entire country just accept this as normal.

Paying even 1c at this point for using the Hugenot Tunnel is a literal ripoff.

Citing the small increase is entirely missing the point in the first place.

How can we keep up with this on top of the petrol levies on top of the corruption?

What it cost me to go drive from KZN to JHB and back I can almost just as well travel oversees.

What with the looming fuel hike, toll fee increases and upcoming budget, us consumers are Farked!
The cost of living is not for the faint hearted!
Those who said moving to a first world country is expensive won't be able to use that excuse much longer.

Ok wiseguy. How do you propose we dont accept it? Drive through toll booths flatout and destroy the boom?

The ones we can ignore we do ignore

Oh it is far too late now other than a full on revolution in the form of boycotting all toll gates.

The same way it is now too late to stop the whole idea of paying for parking when you go to a mall where the mall needs you as a client to buy sht and before you are even in the door they already make a profit from you.

All this bs being accepted early on is the issue.

No party in SA is even talking about this scam so we are kinda fkd when all the parties in SA is accepting the same bs and spewing it all over us.

I am hoping that when the next retrded toll tax of sorts gets introduced people will actually refuse to accept it from the start but this is SA so I am sure everyone will just embrace getting fkd in new holes. Oh and there will be more toll taxes, shorter ranges, perhaps even when you want to enter any area outside your residential area you would have to pay some sort of toll. This government is broke and the only way they see fit to generate money is to introduce more taxes and this is one of the easiest ways for them to print money.

I don't mind paying for parking if it means I have better access to parking and closer proximity to the entrance than the majority of parkers who can't afford it. That's money working for me and buying me happiness.

Roads on the other hand have already been paid for, the money just got stolen or bought incompetence and corruption. Remove the petrol levy and toll every single road. I don't have a problem with it, if applied equally.
