I normally receive a refund from SARS directly into my account. This time around the refund was a cheque and is a fair sum because we moved to LA half way through the financial year amongst a few other reasons. They had a couple of queries on the tax return which were answered by my accountant. On 18th September I saw a deposit in my account for the exact amount on the refund form. I can't view the deposit slip because Nedbank internet banking crashes when I try. It still hasn't cleared yet. On the fraud page of Nedbank they mentioned that cheques can take 5-7 working days. Does that make sense? Depending on the time of deposit and when they count the 7 working days from, today could be 7th working day.
I am a little bit concerned that someone is trying to pull a whammy on me. I just can't see the angle, why would they even bother to put a fake cheque in my account at all, if they want the refund then they would organize to change the details at SARS.
