Sars sued for R950 million over alleged eFiling hijack

A Free State construction company has sued the South African Revenue Service (Sars) for R950 million in damages after the tax service allegedly failed to fully investigate an e-filing hack which resulted in tax compliance issues, Sunday Times reports.

Mol Pro Consulting was forced to shut down operations and had its tax clearance revoked after allegations that it had defrauded Sars out of R116.7 million.

SARS do invent tax legislation to enhance their collections

Sold a house in Jan 2021 and declared the sale in the 2022 return and paid R 196 000 for Capital Gains
In the most recent assessment, there is a R30 000 penalty for not including the sale in the March 2023 provisional tax. This 11 months after I had paid the Capital Gains tax. So far, 4 letters to SARS have not had a reply

After 90 mins on hold to SARS, was told that none of my emails had been received

More likely they were intercepted by their Russian overlords.
 
The problem is ... (more recently) they offer 2FA vs. the eFiling App (not normal 2FA applications). And the fallback at any time is an SMS to your cellphone number. :rolleyes:
 
The only thing you really need to understand and take away from this article is that SARS like the rest of the ANC led government is corrupt, and will actively lie and hide evidence when they are wrong. Think about it, SARS is just as corrupt as the ANC.
