Sars wants to withdraw all customs concessions in South Africa

Bad news about cheap Temu and Shein imports

South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner Edward Kieswetter has issued a notice of intention to withdraw all customs concessions, including reduced taxes and simplified clearance processes.

If implemented, the change could mean that products from Chinese retailers Shein and Temu can no longer be cleared at customs using a simplified process with a 20% flat duty rate.
 
The extremely bloated and useless government is desperate for money to sustain themselves at any cost and while in some isolated instances the removal of the concessions do make sense, for the most this must be seen for what it really is, A corrupt and criminal government ensuring it has a steady flow of cash to loot.

The irony is that after this implementation, that the majority of stuff on Temu and Shein will still be cheaper to buy from them, than retailers here (and of course the drop-shippers online).
 
Wasn't this supposed to be done already?
But it'll still not make the things cheaper here, takealot sellers seem to be the biggest moaners.
 
Well... all those nonsense promises in the 70s and 80s coming home to roost.

"Liberation before Education"
"Go out and make babies to give us power, ANC will feed and home you and your family"

And now we have some of the worst standards of education, explosion in population (over 50% growth in 30+ years, 23+ million) and they're all basically unemployable with almost half the total population now on grants, which the ANC promised to feed, need to find the money somewhere, and no way in hell they gonna let go of their own perks to do it.

What a success story.

Well, the trippling of the "liberation before education/make babies, give us power, we will feed you" population in the past 50 years (almost 60 years actually), the reduction of taxpayers as a % of total population would shrink dramatically, even without needing any of them to even leave the country.

The mess South Africa is in is all about the direction the ANC pushed it into over 50 years ago already, long before their 30years in charge. The ship was blown full of holes in the 70s and 80s by the people now running the show.

Its always Apartheid this, Apartheid that (yes, it was terrible, yes it responsible for alot), but the reality is, the economic hole South Africa is in today, is thanks to the ANC all the way back to the 1970s and before and the trajectory it set the population on, both in numbers as well as attitude towards education.
