Ironically all the western nations had enforced women to cover up at the beach around the 18/19th century, women back then were required to wear full sleeved ankle length gowns as beach wear to maintain modesty and minimize indecency. Heck men also had to wear tops when swimming.

In Victorian Britain and her colonies yes. Not in most of Europe and Russia where a slow cover up is now taking place after centuries of being naked at the beach, public pools and in parks. Berlin's Tiergarten (Where the SA Embassy is and opposite their Reichstag - parliament) still has entire families from toddler to gran having a barbecue nude.

evidently so, sure there is more we haven't seen.

Evidence please? And not the single flight made by a defected Afghan army pilot in a Black Hawk that will no longer be flying as it will have exceeded the maintenance hours.

sure there are more, they just haven't shown it to the worlds media.
or its being trucked across the border into Iran, or they busy trying to get parts for it in China

why would the Taliban tip their hand and show us their air force?

You going to have to wait about a hundred years for the taliban to catch up.
Let's see. Their prophet originally advised women to cover up their tits and vaginas. Although, of course he himself was zealously covering up his own n number of wives. He had the bucks after all, and too many wives to always keep an eye on.
Around the middle ages it became fashionable for pious wealthy women to cover up. In emulation of their prophet. Poor people couldn't really afford such extravagant outfits. Too much expensive cloth you see.
Now a bunch of bearded asshats are forcing women to wear it over the barrel of a gun.

The trend is not encouraging.

Yes, very valid to compare what happened 200 years ago with what happens currently. /s

You arguing with that dumbarse is even worse than me arguing with you, that discussion isn't going anywhere. It's like rolling in the mud with a pig and expecting to pig to be just as upset about being filthy than you are.

Shows you haven't read the thread at all. If you had, you would have seen that China makes a copy of the Black Hawk. Why would they bother trucking scrap choppers to China?

Islam will never allow Western style swimwear. There can never be a reformation in Islam. Suggest you go study Islam a bit before commenting.

The uae and malaysia seem to suggest otherwise, both countries are heavily if not outright islamic but still have some sort of progressive reform on acceptance. Hardcore islam won't allow it, but same applies to hardcore/literal interpretations of any other religion, just the bible itself seems to have a lot to say about women and social standing if the verses were taken literally.

Only 16% of the population of the UAE are Emirati. The rest are expat workers and come from elsewhere. Malaysia has a lot of other religions as well. Both are pragmatic. Their Islamic adherents will not be wearing Western swimwear.

That virgin thing has always fascinated me. Its supposed to be paradise, why the hell would you want to be surrounded by VIRGINS? Absolute sluts would seem more useful.

It's actually a miscommunication and not sexual in any instance, they're supposed to be guides in the afterlife, not concubines.

You ever wonder how every suicide bomber was supposed to get 72 virgins? The catch is that they're the same 72 virgins, and they're more tour guides with poorly labelled name tags.

No, snarky yes but to a bit of a silly comment. History is full situations where people have done what they can to survive.

I guess that until you're in that situation, or any sort of situation where your life is on the line, you'll do what you can to get out of that situation as safely as possible.
It's simply a case of survival.

PS: The Taliban couldn't give a damn about women anyway, never have and never will.
interesting in this case its "anything to survive"... but depending what page you reading from its ok... so the "bad" guys doing anything to survive should then also be viewed with that perspective? Vra Ma Net....

Isn't the 72 also a miscommunication? It was supposed to mean "a lot" or "many" not an actual number.

I think there was a number, along with 80 000 servants as well, but it wasn't 72 virgins and 80 000 servants FOR EACH person that died. I wasn't a verse or something said by Mohammed, but some other person close to Mohammed that said it. This is how stories get muddled up.

Still not a great moral story overall, but it came from a different era when people valued different things. It has become a propaganda tool for new suicide bombers as well as a derogatory insult to people fighting for freedom.
