For the time being Telkom however maintains its monopoly on SAT3 and the accompanying national bandwidth, and it remains to be seen what effect the Minister’s promise will have that all exclusivity provisions contained in the SAT-3 agreements shall be declared null and void in South Africa.

...from 1 November wasn't it Ivy?

Telkom said that it is in the process of rebalancing national and international pricing, but that it should be noted that the same phenomenon of national versus international pricing is found in other countries.

The all to familiar comment they like making

Yup. There are also countries where child labor and cannibalism is present. That does not make it right.

Fking telscum. They will use ANY excuse to enrich themselves.

SAT3 = Telskommel = Vodaskommel = S!AX = Infrascum

The beast's head gets choped off and it grows two...then four...and then more!!!!

Its all the same people basically ...I just cannot see liberilization ever happening and think we must accept that SAT3 is part of history and until we get a real SNOT we will be stuck with the one beast with several heads.

Btw, IMHO, Neotottie is not a real SNOT...They are good for one thing though...a lot of IBIWISI and "imminent" jokes.

ROFL anyone reading this besides a myadsl peep will think this is code...but you all cacth my drift.

Oh come on Telkom. Those pathetic excuses are the best you can come up with. And you just admitted guilt at overpricing in your own statement when you noted that the high cost of data on the local leg as an anomaly; one that exists in other countries?

Okay, so if it's an anomaly, that means it’s not the norm. Why is this the case? What are countries that are not experiencing this anomaly doing differently? Why aren't we doing the same?

Saying things like, "My friends did as well," does not make something right. For f**k sake. Can Telkom just stop taking us all for bunch of brain dead buffoons and start telling the truth?

If you want to line your pockets at the expense of our country's economic future, at least have the guts to be upfront about it. It’s not as if anyone can actually stop you. We already all know Telkom’s sordid shady past. And if you think being honest about your activities will hurt your brand, think again. Telkom has long since become synonymous with ineptitude and greed.

Hmmm...sounds more like there is a SAT-3 Melkbosstrand Cold War going on behind the scenes between NeeTel and Telkodemonopolies and its major Tsunami-Shareholder - aka the DoC, as well as possibly VSNL.

Less than 2 months to go until 2007-11-01 when Poison Ivy has """"promised""" open and fair access to SAT-3, and NeeTel is still tied up in negotiations and apparently VSNL has not yet applied its choke-hold leverage to strangle Telkodemonopolies into submitting.

Expect Poison Ivy's classic Unclarifications to follow...

The fact is that we don't know their FULL shady history. There are still many documents that have not been released to the public because it might cause an outcry. I for one would like to see these documents and know what was, and most probably still is, happening.

Idiots... why not just order a international link from JHB to Cape Town?

On a serious note though, part her point is understandable. More people use Cape Town -> London link than JHB -> Simonstown link, so it should be more expensive.

I still don't see why a JHB->CT->London should be more expensive (or R100K less) than JHB->CT. Same number of users and shorter distance!

You see its only a half circuit - its either:
  • that they've only used the north going fibre - if you actually want data back you have to pay double
  • or that you're not paying for the connectors at the London end. You have to pay BT in pounds for those - and using the Telkom Chinese Forex Chart that comes in at extra R1.6M
