With all the green, global warming talk isn't it a bit silly to still be fighting for control of the oil?
Military machinery requires lube , no oil , no lube -no military control, no oil - no oil, no arms - no profits.
and round and round it goes.

Pompeo says it's Iran so it must be true.
Of course its Iran, with personal help from Putin himself.
I wonder when will Assad be in the mood again for a little chemical attack or 2...probably waits for the White Helmuts to film it.

Spike in international oil prices this morning: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-49710820
Oil prices hit their highest in four months after two attacks on Saudi Arabian facilities on Saturday knocked out more than 5% of global supply.

At the start of trading, Brent crude jumped 19% to $71.95 a barrel, while the other major benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, rose 15% to $63.34.

Prices eased back slightly after US President Donald Trump authorised the release of US reserves.

It could take weeks before the Saudi facilities are fully back on line.

And no doubt local fools will blame the ANC for the latest skyrocket in fuel hikes.

We blame the ANC for the rand seeing its arse which worsens the effects of increasing oil prices.

One doesn't need to be a genius to figure out how a weak rand increases our sensitivity to fluctuations in the price of oil. Instead of being punched once in the gut by the oil price we get a second punch because the rand is at the mercy of idiots.

But that's for another thread.

Half the petrol price is taxes. ANC directly to blame for that.

Doesn't Iran have large stockpiles of oil due to all the sanctions? Maybe this is what they need to go liberate that oil.

Cui bono?

Personally, I seriously doubt the current source of the attack. Iran stands to lose way too much. Then again....

Well, time will tell. Personally I think it could have been a false flag operation for all we know orchestrated by Trump. He knows the rule after all. Unpopular presidents get a free re-election if you happen to be at war, ala George Bush style. He could be paying the Saudi's to take the knock as an excuse to invade Iran.

..wweeeelll.. they did sell off all our oil reserves, or are attempting to while it still sits in saldanha with the sale being blocked. so its unusable anyway.

its meant to protect us from a skyrocket in fuel hikes. innit bruv.

To be honest, the short term spike in the price of oil is the least of our worries from this incident. The increased likelihood of war in the Middle East is a bigger issue to worry about.
Definitely. Saudi + USA vs Iran would be short and nasty but would call all kinds of havoc with oil prices for a while, especially if its that easy to knock out oil production with a few drones. Too many countries could do that way too easily.

Precisely.

Also I doubt it would be Saudi + USA vs Iran...there would be many other joining on either side... it would plunge that whole area into turmoil for a very very long time.

There have been conflicts and turmoil in some or other area in the modern era of the ME, since 1900 , do you really think another one will make all that difference ?

Have you been blind to all their other aggressive acts recently? Iran has nothing to lose. The current sanctions are hurting them badly. With the nuclear deal falling through, they have no other way forward.
