Scarlett Johansson lawyers up against ChatGPT creator

Don't know what to make of the latest GPT-4o stuff in regards to Microsoft's soon-to-be-deployed usage of it, Qualcomms new X Elite chips, what is about to happen with Windows CoPilot and the shenanigans going on at OpenAI. It's been a rollercoaster ride this week when I started going more in-depth to try and understand what's going on and what's being planned.

I'm kind of k@kking myself and excited at the same time.
At least we'll be entertained for a while while most of us lose our jobs, I guess.

As for Scarlett, it's pretty obvious that's her voice... might sound stupid to moan about this for some but the amount of data out there that's been harvested by these companies with zero oversight and the fact that many or most of humanity has been involved in generating the building blocks for companies like this that are about to make Billions/Trillions if this works out somehow doesn't feel right.... Surely we can't just allow these companies to do what they want with all that data in a black box and then be OK with a statement like "Nu-uh-uh, we didn't use your data for feature X".

This whole thing could go either way.
We either truly benefit in the future or we're f**ed in the long run.

I should probably tell my Mom to stay off the internet from now on because there's no way most boomers are ready for what's to come, I'm not even sure I am at this point. I should have become a plumber when I had the chance.

Lol because M$ Photos can now enhance old photos and they've added a recall feature that's an AI rehash of Windows 10 Timeline / Apple's time machine?

Naah those are basic feature crap.
Have you seen all the OpenAI demo videos?... including the new ones released by MS?

This entire thing is deeply sinister...

For those who have 3 hours to kill in between work and life, I highly suggest watching this... there's a ton more to say but this (he must have taken months to create the script and there's some later updates that happened as the video was produced) but the guy did his homework, and he bloody nailed it.

It is worrying to me to think that the millions of people out there who've been painstakingly contributing to human knowledge over the years will now potentially be the same people finding themselves at the bottom of the food chain in many circumstances once the elite few profiting from this uses their stolen data and effort to make mountains of $$$$.

Are we even remotely close to having a real discussion about this?
Doesn't seem like it, seems it easier to make jokes and memes then move on, as per the status quo in 2024.

There's a section in here that blew my mind, an analogy I didn't think of before.... if you're old enough to remember Napster: Napster was decimated by legal action for intellectual property "theft", even though they didn't physically store any of it, they indexed it and was always a middle man between clients, they even managed to eventually implement a system that would block >98% of intellectual property being shared on the platform, yet, they were brought to their knees.

These "AI" companies all seem to be marching along with utter impunity and very few people seem to care or notice this.
