It is the duty of the legislature, to create laws that will protect South Africans from such hazards, and it is the duty of the relevant agencies to see to it that these laws are strictly enforced. This way, we can all be sure that we are protected from such hazards.

no need for pics , just look at all the cell towers around you , or go to your local hospital to see all the cancer patients . BTW i came across this article ,while looking for a reason for the increase in cancer deaths in my family and friends . the number of which has increased quite dramatically over the last 2years .

I doubt leaving such an issue in the hands of goverment to legislate will work . based on their track record the money comes before the people .

Sorry... this story is sensationalist.

Inverse square law does not apply here? The Earth, SUN, stars are all EMI sources too! Sunlight is radiation too

Its total load of kuk! .. any story that gets released before the scientists have studied it IMHO is bogus! scare-mongering ratings generating garbage from some Hick town.

From henry Lai's study document... who is cited in this scare-media

CONCLUDING REMARKS

It is difficult to deny that RFR at low intensity can affect the nervous system. However, data available suggest a complex reaction of the nervous system to RFR. Exposure to RFR does produce various effects on the central nervous system. The response is not likely to be linear with respect to the intensity of the radiation. Other parameters of RFR exposure, such as frequency, duration, waveform, frequency- and amplitude-modulation, etc, are important determinants of biological responses and affect the shape of the dose (intensity)-response relationship. In order to understand the possible health effects of exposure to RFR from mobile telephones, one needs first to understand the effects of these different parameters and how they interact with each other.

Therefore, caution should be taken in applying the existing research results to evaluate the possible effect of exposure to RFR during mobile telephone use. It is apparent that not enough research data is available to conclude whether exposure to RFR during the normal use of mobile telephones could lead to any hazardous health effect.
Research studying RFR of frequencies and waveforms similar to those emitted from cellular telephones and intermittent exposure schedule resembling the normal pattern of phone use is needed. At this point, since not much is known on the biological effects of mobile telephone use but there is indication that the radiation from the phones can cause biological effects which could lead to detrimental health effects, prudent usage should be taken as a logical guideline.

So from the very same article we have research data

Recent health surveys in other nations confirm that people living close to wireless transmitters are in big trouble:

• In 2002, French medical specialists found that people living close to cell towers suffered extreme sleep disruption, chronic fatigue, nausea, skin problems, irritability, brain disturbances and cardiovascular problems.24

• German researchers found that people living within 1,200 feet of a transmitter site in the German city of Naila had a high rate of cancer and developed their tumors on average eight years earlier than the national average. Breast cancer topped the list.25

• Spanish researchers found that people living within 1,000 feet of cellular antennas had statistically significant illness at an average power density of 0.11 to 0.19 microwatts /cm2, which is thousands of times less than allowed by international exposure standards.26

• An Egyptian medical study found that people living near mobile phone base stations were at high risk for developing nerve and psychiatric problems, plus debilitating changes in neurobehavioral function. Exposed persons had significantly lower performance on tests for attention, short term auditory memory and problem solving.27

• Researchers in Israel studied people in the town of Netanya who had lived near a cell tower for 3-7 years. They had a cancer rate four times higher than the control population. Breast cancer was most prevalent.28

A new European Union poll of more than 27,000 people across the continent reveals that 76 percent of respondents feel that they are being made ill by wireless transmitters.29 Seventy-one percent in the UK believe they suffer health effects from mast (cell tower) radiation. In April 2007, The London Times reported a startling number of cancer clusters in mast neighborhoods. One study in Warwickshire, found 31 cancers around a single street.30 Some sick Brits send their blood to a lab in Germany, which uses state of the art methodology to confirm wireless radiation damage.

Radiation sickness is now so prevalent in Germany that 175 doctors have signed the Bramberger Appeal, a document calling the situation a "medical disaster." It asks the German government to initiate a national public health investigation. This appeal closely follows the Freiburger Appeal, signed by thousands of German doctors who say they are dealing with an epidemic of severe and chronic diseases among both old and young patients exposed to wireless microwave radiation. The head of the cancer registry in Berlin found that one urban area with cellular antennas had a breast cancer rate seven times the national average.31

Sweden was one of the first nations to go wireless. Swedish neuroscientist, Dr. Olle Johansson, with hundreds of published papers to his credit, said that a national epidemic of illness and disability was unleashed by the wireless revolution. Long periods of sick leave, attempted suicides and industrial accidents all increased simultaneously with introduction of mobile phone radiation. Ninety-nine percent of the Swedish population is now under duress of powerful third generation masts. Johansson reports that people are plagued with sleep disorders, chronic fatigue that does not respond to rest, difficulties with cognitive function and serious blood problems. Recurrent headaches and migraines are a "substantial public health problem," he says.

Rooftop transmitters, which readily pass microwave radiation into structures, can be a death sentence. Across the world there are reports of cancer clusters and extreme illness in office buildings and multi-tenant dwellings where antennas are placed on rooftops directly over workers and tenants. In 2006, the top floors of a Melbourne University office building were closed after a brain tumor cluster drew media attention to the risks of communications transmitters on top of the building.33 Likewise, ABC’s Brisbane television complex, topped with satellite dishes and radio antennas, was the site of a well-publicized breast cancer cluster among workers.

Funny how we can only read what keeps us ignorant and oblivious to our world . I suppose all these researchers are all idiots and fear mongers :sick:

• In 2002, French medical specialists found that people living close to cell towers suffered extreme sleep disruption, chronic fatigue, nausea, skin problems, irritability, brain disturbances and cardiovascular problems.24

These same people could not tell when the Transmitter was on or off.... and 60% of the time they were wrong.

• German researchers found that people living within 1,200 feet of a transmitter site in the German city of Naila had a high rate of cancer and developed their tumors on average eight years earlier than the national average. Breast cancer topped the list.25

Water, Pollution, industrial etc were not factored in to the equasion.

• Spanish researchers found that people living within 1,000 feet of cellular antennas had statistically significant illness at an average power density of 0.11 to 0.19 microwatts /cm2, which is thousands of times less than allowed by international exposure standards.26

Cant say I know that one... going to read the report now.

• An Egyptian medical study found that people living near mobile phone base stations were at high risk for developing nerve and psychiatric problems, plus debilitating changes in neurobehavioral function. Exposed persons had significantly lower performance on tests for attention, short term auditory memory and problem solving.27

Same as case #1 ..

• Researchers in Israel studied people in the town of Netanya who had lived near a cell tower for 3-7 years. They had a cancer rate four times higher than the control population. Breast cancer was most prevalent.28

Some countries experimented with hormones in the water supply which caused breast cancer... cant remember what county it was.

Sweden was one of the first nations to go wireless. Swedish neuroscientist, Dr. Olle Johansson.............[snipped]

Dr Olle Johansen,
* In 2004, Olle Johansson, who appears as an expert in the program, was awarded Misleader of the Year 2004. In reality he’s not much of an expert at all.

* I have found no indications that there are such things as official disabilities in Sweden or that “the Swedish government recognises radiation sensitivity as a disability.” What have happened is that the government has granted various kinds of support to “electrosensitives”. But it doesn’t mean that electrosensitivty exists, The National Board of Health and Welfare seems to regard it as an psychosomatic illness.

And outlines some of Johanssons prior research.

“A few years ago Johansson received particular attention after he claimed that brain damage, and specifically mad cow disease could be caused by the use of mobile phone”

Rooftop transmitters, which readily pass microwave radiation into structures, can be a death sentence. I would expect a 10 Megawatt water cooled magnetron transmitter to cook anything in its path!. That is a documented fact!

I dont say it doesnt exist... but check your refrences, just 'cos its on the internet doesnt mean its true. Anyone can find an argument on the net that suits their theory.

Now... go read the WHO report on the matter .. http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs304/en/index.html

“In fact, due to their lower frequency, at similar RF exposure levels, the body absorbs up to five times more of the signal from FM radio and television than from base stations. This is because the frequencies used in FM radio (around 100 MHz) and in TV broadcasting (around 300 to 400 MHz) are lower than those employed in mobile telephony (900 MHz and 1800 MHz) and because a person’s height makes the body an efficient receiving antenna. Further, radio and television broadcast stations have been in operation for the past 50 or more years without any adverse health consequence being established.”

So I suppose that all these sources are wrong ? All these people had nothing better to do than try and test technology that has never been tested before it was unleashed on the public , oh and Ricard all your rebuttels where you get your info from , the internet perhaps , could they be wrong ? Be very careful of misinfo supplied by people who have a vested interest in these technologies , what do the people who warn of the inherent dangers have to gain from spreading these "stories" ,perhaps their

You are entitled to believe anything you want .. its your call. I work with RF every single day! and I take precautions.... but I am not going to wrap myself up in tin-foil on what some crackpots write.

Olle Johansen is one of those crackpots. Just go read the WHO study, and I rate them as the de-facto standard on the topic. Not some student that has got cash for a study and needs to deliver some drivel.

Ok, didnt read the other posts in here... Cell Towers are all around us, Electrical appliences gives off EMF same as the Celltowers. Where i work, there are several cellular units pointing exactly the same height as our offices and we've been there way before Cellphones became the norm. Nobody at work or around the premises are glowing or getting burnt by their jewelery or their DNA decompiles... GAWD the language!

I mean Really!!!

We can be sheeple or we can connect the dots . My experience is that there is a lot more cases of people with cancer these days , so whether it is in the water , air , food we eat or in the wireless technologies , to see a boy of 20yrs die with a face full of tumours is frightening . So if we react by insulting one person out of countless saying the same thing , we cannot remain blind to the facts . Like all great movements it gets started by people who are called crackpots , get ridiculed , assassinated , beheaded or thrown in jail . So be it now or in a 100 years the truth will prevail .

p.s. why is it that we need such a lot of cellphone tower with such large power supplies and panels . Look at that thick cables going up to those panels  . I would think something like a radio aerial mounted on a street light would do the job . any techies care to explain ?
