I am a bit confused - how is this disgusting and retarded school tradition, called bombing, behind the school boys death?

there is a bit of a difference between throwing condoms filled with urine, faeces and what else (as disgusting as it is) to bringing a knife to school and stabbing someone.

I don't even see the correlation

I attended one of the cheapest public high schools in the cape which many would also assume to be rough.

The schools' tradition was to dig a hole, add water to make mud, throw each other in it and party once that's done (all full of mud)

No violence, no murders, just fun.

Revenge for being thrown with poo and pee?

The direct consequence of not being allowed to discipline your children by giving them a proper hiding. We are breeding monsters and the worst is yet to come. This will come back and bite everyone, including the court system behind this, in the a$$.

Maybe it’s best not to share your lack of parenting skills with the world.

I'd only recently heard this 40 days concept... It definitely wasn't a thing when I finished school.. Or at least not down in Durban from what I remember.

Just seems like an excuse to be a reprobate...

When did you finish school? Does your mom know you're on the internet when she's at work?

There is a reason behind this. Although, this type of barbarism we are seeing today, where a child takes a knife to school and stabs a fellow classmate to death, as if it is the right thing to do, or stabs a teacher to death or takes a gun and shoots a teacher or classmate was definitely not a common occurrence under the older generation.
The type of barbarism depicted here has been with us for centuries.

Whose kids are these? Older generation's. So, who's doing poor job of parenting? Older generation as referred to above? Much parenting is left to gadgets by the "older generations", allowing outsiders to leave a large footprint on their kids upbringing without parents realising it.

Firstly, no, it has not. These type of crimes were not prevalent 40 years ago, even more so in western countries. This is a current problem and this problem has been brought about the current generation. Besides, I do not agree with you that these children are the problem of the older generation. These children are the product of the current government restricting effective parenting and trying to force a new way of growing up children, which already has proven to be a failure. It is not working here. It is not working anywhere else in the world. Like they say, you will reap what you sow and we are already gearing up for this.

You can't say this with absolute certainty. News travel faster nowadays than they did back in the old days. I had a look at school shootings in the US from mid 19th century to the late 80s and guess what... There are other incidents not documented or circulated widely as well.

Picked one incident at random. There's more on the link above. More prevalent now due to factors such as ballooning population, etc.
October 17, 1978Lanett, Alabama0113-year-old Robin Robinson, was paddled by Lanett Junior High School principal, Lewis Hoggs, after having a disagreement with another student. Robinson left the school, and returned with a .22-caliber handgun and shot Hoggs, grazing the top of his head.[150][169][170] Robinson was arrested two hours later about two blocks from the school, and later charged in juvenile court.

Before someone starts accusing of trying to whitewash the incident under discussion, no I'm not. I'm responding to comment about prevalence of these incidents back in the days.

More prevalent now due to governments restricting proper parenting too. A new movement wanting to change the way in which children are raised. A movement which is failing, whether this is out of pure stupidity or perhaps some more sinister reasons behind these movements.

In my primary school, bullies waited for us at the gate. There was a name for it, which I can't seem to recall.

High school final day was a drab affair, bar the excitement of moving to a new grade in few months. There wasn't much else going on, except helping teachers move things around.

Rubbish. So because South Africa banned parents smacking children, violence in schools has risen in the last 4 weeks since the ban was announced?

What the hell are you on about?

Lew is obviously talking from his privileged position back in the day, I went to school when standard 6 was somehow one of the hardest grades to pass, there were big boys there and stabbing each other on school trips and school grounds was a common things since those guys were thugs who just came to school to pass time.

I am sure this never made it to whatever Weekblad he was reading back then. One thing they did well was the stabbing, they somehow never managed to kill each other.

Now imagine that!! And, this is only the beginning. We will talk again in 10 years from now. And, besides, just remember that for many years now teachers and principals were banned from giving a hiding and children could do as they please. So, it worked out well for them. So good, all these violence, crimes and more in schools, even the Concourt felt the need to jump in and take it a step further.
