In a country with an independent broadcaster and a free press this would be highly concerning, then again, this is the SABC.

I happened to hear that worm Steven Grootes interviewing and E Cape nogal, EFF secretary of some such about "Brackenfell"; gobbling up all her racist vomit with nary a query, fact check or comment that could be construed as negative. Goebbels would have been very proud of his journalistic "independence". His Master's Voice.

"Journalism" in SA. Truly activists posing as journalists.

There was a time when I listened to Cape Talk exclusively, but the last couple of years whenever I tune in I want to vomit. They have lost all objectivity and have a noticeable slant to their "reporting" (IMO).

So it is mostly FMR or Spotify these days.

Reactions pour in as UK publication slams 'white thugs' in Brackenfell High protests

A violent altercation between EFF protesters, residents and parents of Brackenfell High School pupils in Cape Town has again become a talking point on social media, after a headline by The Sun UK labelled the residents and parents as “white thugs” who attacked black protesters.

The article included a video and pictures showing a scuffle between the two groups. In the video, a man can be seen hitting a woman, dressed in EFF regalia with a stick on her back. The woman can be heard telling the man “don't touch me”.

The headline, which has since been changed, was shared on social media where it received mixed reactions.

The Sun article?

Brackenfell High School to have diversity training, review hair policy

The School Governing Body at Brackenfell High School is trying to prevent any future race wars by reviewing the school’s hair policy and having diversity training.

The school has been embroiled in a racial scandal after a matric event was held and attended by white students only. The “Masquerade Ball MX’20” event which took place on 17 October.

A statement released by the (SGB) on Friday said: “The SGB and staff of Brackenfell High School, fully commit ourselves to participate in future discussions with learners as well as parents in order to ensure a constructive way forward.

“In respect of the way forward we aim to expand and adapt in order to make the school a better place. The school has already started addressing concerns and putting various measures in place to facilitate diversity.”

Some of the measures include:
  • Establishing a Diversity Committee
  • Reviewing the girls’ hair policy
  • Engaging speakers and external professional consultants to conduct sensitivity and diversity training with the staff and learners next year.
  • Training in diversity, sensitivity, recognising racism and discrimination etc.
The school also distanced itself from the violent clashes between parents and protesting EFF members earlier this week.

“The school unequivocally condemn and distance ourselves from the incidence of violence that transpired around our school as well as any form of hate speech expressed on social media as a result of these events.

“These unfortunate actions do not represent the values that we embrace and teach at Brackenfell High School; values like unity, respect, responsibility, citizenship, integrity and neighbourly love.”

The statement further reads: “At the moment our priority is the best interest of our learners and their right to write their final examinations without any form of disruption and in a safe environment.

“We sincerely appeal to our parents, community members as well as people from outside our community, to refrain from involvement in any form of aggression or violence at or around the school premises.

“We fully acknowledge your concern as parents for the wellbeing and safety of your children, but we are confident that the police and other policing structures are fully equipped and able to deal with any eventuality which may take place at or around the school.

“We implore you to exercise calmness and discipline as any escalation in violence will only put our learners, your children, in danger and cause them unnecessary anxiety and distract from their examinations. Please allow the school the opportunity to address concerns and to plot a course towards reconciliation and healing.”

I guess they have already been consulted by the SAHRC.

Just one thing, and it is OT, these diversity and sensitivity programs are a one-way street, and doesn’t address the white racial spectrum as I have experienced. Those who have attended one which was work-related like a hosted workshop or through an induction program which was to understanding your white privilege in a modern-day society the crux?

Not all these programs are made or applied the same, but I want to get the general gist as I know about two which took aim at white privilege and I wonder how such a program will be applied to school and whether it will apply to the school's structure as a whole because I cannot see how this should be applied to children. I don't agree with thought training, and I would oppose it when applied to minors.

It was their initial title, but I see the article have expanded since, and they changed the title. It was published on Nov 10th and updated on Nov 12th. Obviously Times Live saw the opportunity here to bend the mistake to their populist views.

News24's opinion editor also thrown in her weight on the topic,

you can have a balanced view and all, but that toxic populism is also pretty bloody racist AF and not to mention the hatred.

News24 is nothing more than a toothless bunch of cumsoaked nancyboys. They will never report free from bias.
