School tuck shops are making your kids fat

South African children are eating too much fast food and spending too much time with their eyes glued to screens - and it's having a negative impact on their health and well-being.
None of my 7 children were fat. None of their children are fat. None of my 3 step children are fat. Thet are all over the world: SA, China, Taiwan, Greece, Spain, UK, Germany, Thailand..........
Something doesn't add up.

“Despite the bleak economic climate in South Africa, the fast food industry is growing, and sales of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are on the rise.”

If you just do some simple Google research you will find that fastfood is often the go-to for those with economic problems because its cheaper to produce and thus cheaper to buy.

Anyway, maybe we should get young ones educated and motivated to focus on how to solve energy crises, corruption, racism and economic problems and let them enjoy a chocolate while browsing instagram..

In primary school there was a girl called Hilda. Her mom worked at the tuck shop. She'd get a coke, pack of chips, chocolate and another sweet of her choice, daily.

She was fat.

Easier to blame school tuck shops instead of poor parenting

I had a neighbour called XXXXXX - in case she reads this! She was fat. Her parents and younger brother were slim. Then at 13 years she went slim overnight. Well, not so much slim as 38" - 21" - 36". And attractive with it. And dressed to make the best of it. I never worked out why or how - who cared? She was STUNNING!!!!!
I wonder what became of her? She will be 76 now. Probably a gorgeous 76 year old.
I don't think it was dietary, but who knows?
But yes, in general you are completely correct. When young and looking for a dream girl, look at the mother first. That is what you will get in 25 years or so in all likelihood.

That makes you in your 80's ? What does your 'weight' look like? :sneaky:

I used to weigh 70/72, now that I'm 30 I'm closer to 90. Will need to change my diet. /Sigh

78. Currently 90 kilos, and going down. I was 68k at 21, then 73 at 23, then 80 at 30. By the time I was 60 I was 120k. Then I decided to eat less. My target is 87.5. I will be there in two or three weeks. No fancy diets - stuff film stars and 'feeling the burn' and change with the wind Banting people. Just eat less. Twice a day is fine. You won't feel hungry after a week or so as your intestines shrink. Gyms? Don't be silly! I do some exercises to rebuild leg muscles after a knee replacement, about 10 minutes a day.
I was 6' when younger, but am now nearer 5'11": you shrink as you get older.
In the UK the NHS set store by BMI, but it is not reliable and has several imperfections.
