Schools during and after lockdown – What is happening in South Africa

The COVID-19 lockdown means that schools are not allowed to operate as per usual.

However, Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga has made it clear the government does not want to postpone the school year any more than necessary.

The department has also taken measures to help students continue educating themselves during the lockdown.

Still waiting for my kids' school to announce a discount foe school fees. But they have dug in saying full fees, and even aftercare fees are to be paid.

They have no idea what's coming their way at the end of the month because I know many people who have had salary cuts or are to receive no salary at all......

If people are unable/unwilling to pay all/full rent, they sure as hell are not going to pay for schooling which is a fraction of what they should be getting for their money....

Most MyBB forum users probably have all the equipment necessary for kids to study from home.

Unfortunately, most don't

School fees I get but I'd tell them where they can put aftercare.

School fees are paid for the annum, many teachers have lost there jobs as their contracts can't be renewed at the end of the month.

Landlords and teachers are not excluded from this once in a century financial event. If parents and business tenants are taking salary/turnover (no April trading) knocks, why should landlords and teachers not sacrifice same?
