Schreiber reveals a third of Home Affairs offices can't issue Smart IDs

That wasn't the question. Let me put it another way. I have a green ID book. I get an ID card. What's to stop someone presenting a green ID book when impersonating me? My getting an ID card isn't going to make green ID books disappear magically.

That's why there is a drive to get everyone smart ID cards and make the green book invalid because it's easy to forge.

Well, with just a few clicks and the green book vanishes from the system - thus rendering it useless to any potential fraudsters. 🤷🏽‍♂️

So allow it for Permanent residents
Allow them to enter and exit the country using their ID card.

At the moment there is confusion as to what is needed. Most have to make a certified copy stamped in the last 3 months by Police of their PR Certificate. (PR Certificates cant be replaced it seems). If its lost you have to apply for a letter that you have a PR that can take a year to get.

Yet previously they had a stamp in their passport which could be renewed in a day. Why is that no longer the case?

My green book is still in a good condition. If they say I don't have pay for the new card, Ill apply for it tomorrow.

I filled in all the forms online for my 16yo daughter, the banks are all around an hour drive from my location and none of them had slots available, the website said go to your nearest home affairs so went to Akasia and stood in the line for an hour, they tell us no you must go to the bank they don't do anything without a booking.

She still does not have an ID card. She has 2 passports (SA and UK) and 2 birth certificates (original and unabridged) but can't get a piece of plastic from home affairs.

That's why everybody requires a smart ID card, so the green ID is invalid and can't be used for ID purposes. Like the blue ID book and pass book is invalid.

Yes, exactly like the blue ID book became invalid for any ID purposes overnight on a certain date. Try presenting one to a bank as ID. The same will happen with the green ID book.

Home Affairs issued her SA Passport. How did they do that without her ID she needs to collect the passpoert?

So, permanent residents will have better privileges than Citizens who need a passport to enter and exit? What does the PR use on the other side of the border?

And they have the audacity to threaten us. Varke. Even with their pathetic public services working to some degree it is one massive mess.

I have been trying for months. Can't get a slot at banks or department. Not even the mobile pigstall could help because they were still servicing the short queue from the previous day.

SA Citizens shows their SA Passport to enter and exit SA

Foreign Citizens has to enter SA with a Visa and passport.

Foreign Citizen with PR: Used to have a stamp in their passport to say they have PR, so they dont need to apply for a Visa each time to enter SA. However this is a very grey matter. Some use SA ID's with their passport and other uses their PR Original Certificate and some a certified copy of their PR (stamped in past 3 months by the SA Police). - This is one my wife uses.

SA took away the stamp for PR in their passport. They also said they wont replace lost PR certificates, which takes 2 years to replace (so 2 years where every bank always asks for it wont work).

A PR uses their foreign passport for travel by the way. When you have multiple citizenship ie my kids, they have a selection of 3 passports they can use. However to enter and exit SA they need to use their SA passport, to enter and exit Singapore they need their Singaporean passport, and so on. However go to Japan, they would use their Singaporean as its basically Visa free for them, whereas I use my South African one and have to apply for a Visa.

So basically you need to use your passport only entering and exiting the country it originates from, everywhere else, its upto you which is easier. Kids can have multiple citizenships up to the time of 18 then have to decide.

At the calendar section, type in the date manually. A week ahead, and then another week ahead and so on. If it fails go into Home Affairs very early.

Kids had Light Oliver Colour (ie like 1st ID book)

My first ID was the Blue book and that was in the 1970's. As a kid we had no ID.

What's the point of all this information?

Very strange, try Pretoria East or Centurion, only 1 hr in and out, no booking required, and for some odd reason afternoons seems to be the best times to visit.

This sounds right.... The drawbacks of been such a (donkey) .... Negative flow energy plots your steps

She was 15 at the time, my 9yo son also has his passport. We needed to get the SA passports to get the UK passports.

Since when do you need an SA passport to get a UK passport?

Your entire story is confusing.

We needed their unabridged birth certificates as well as my wifes parents birth certificates and they needed a document from SA govt with their photo on it, as they are both under 16 (or were at the time) the simplest was passports.
There were also tons of other documents that HMPO wanted to give my wife and children their passports.

ID Number appears on their Birth Certificate. You can apply for a child passport already when they are barely a few months old. However you need to bring along pictures. Most photographers will lay a baby on a table and then take a photo from above. May take a while, hopefully baby doesnt fall asleep.

And a baby can get a SARS tax number, you will need it if you ever want your kids to do modelling. Yes babies pays 20% tax.
