So now Ferrari are begging to bend the rules a little to let the 'inexperienced' Schumi test the F60... eish... What's good enough for a total F1 rookie is good enough for a multiple WC I think... I really hope they don't go that route, it will just generate more negative publicity for F1... you won't hear the end of it.

What is wrong with letting him test drive it? Shummi driving again has the whole world buzzing, even my friends who stopped watching f1 said they will be watching again.

There is nothing negative that can out of this, only ferrari haters who always try and find something to give ferrari horn about :D.

I'm a Schumi fanatic, but I have to agree with Williams. They brought in a newbie for the Hungarian race and he was also not allowed to test drive the race before the time.

However, this will just make Schumi's return even sweeter if he finishes on the podium!

I hope he kicks everyone's butts even if he doesn't get to test the car. Then I would like to hear what they say.

Oh, phu-leeeeeze... get your collective panties untwisted. The regulations are clear, and all the teams agreed to them before the start of the season. There is NO testing between Grands Prix, regardless if it's that plick Schumacher, a team's regular driver or the Pope behind the wheel...

It's called unfair advantage, it's pretty obvious that it would be an opportunity of note to fix the Ferrari. Duh... seriously, you can't be that biased?
Any extra hours in the car mean advantage.

OK, for the record, this is the situation:
Schumi helped setup the prototype for this car, that is, last year's car with slicks and different aerodynamics. However, he's never driven the current car (F60) and until Friday, hadn't been in an F1 car for over a year.
In-season testing is banned, but their is an allowance if you get permission from all the teams and the FIA.
Ferrari sent a letter to everyone requesting this, FOTA agreed, the FIA said nothing, and Williams complained (bitter?). Then Scuderia Torro Rosso jumped on the bandwagon cos they weren't allowed to let their new guy test (Jaime Ag-). Ferrari claim they were in favour of allowing Jaime to test, btw, but that's another story.
F1 is about the spectacle and the whole world's excited about Schumi racing again. It's put the spice back into the season. Which is why most people wanna make it as good as possible, by letting him test before the race. After all, nowadays everybody partakes in the profits. And with Schumi there, you have more people watching.

He wasn't allowed to test full stop.

From the fans point of view maybe, but one of the reasons F1 has lost it's sparkle is becuase of the grey rules. Good or bad, you have to be consistent with the application of the rules to maintain credibility. F1 has a long way to go to regain the ground the FIA alone have thrown away. F1 needs to be more about the sport and less about the spectacle to regain momentum.

Watching Schumi race with little testing behind his name (like Jamie) is far more exciting than giving him a helping hand. Surely die hard Schumi fans feel the same. Then again, win at all costs was often his motto.

Does this rule also apply for test drivers and guys like Schumi (before he was called back).
I know the actual driver of the car is not allowed to drive it before practice, qualifying and race day but what about mechanics, consultants and other members of the team?

I'm sure he has driven the car, either as a test driver or as consultant.

The regulations pertain more to the car/tyre combination than to a given driver. This is why the running he has done in the past week, has been at the wheel of a 2007 Ferrari shod with GP2 tyres... although I wouldn't mind that bit verified... ;)

The regulations govern 'testing', i.e. any and all running of the cars/tyres used in the current season.

I think you are all forgetting the circumstances that brought Shummi into play. It's a different story bringing someone new into the team. It's another trying to replace a driver because the other one was injured. It was very short notice and i think it's only fair they allow ferrari to do some test drives. Sheesh.

Erm... no

One set of rules for everyone. If Torro Rosso's new driver could survive on track this past race after only driving the car for the FIRST time on the Friday of race weekend, then so can the hallowed Schumi.

Why should he be granted special dispensation?
