Because he more than likely the biggest f1 driver in history :D

Shummi does not need time in the car, he will get some practise on the friday, it is not like the ferrari is 10000x different than what he was used to.

Lol, you are giving reasons to the contrary - yep, the big baby will manage just fine. Ferrari just don't want McLaren to catch them - it's embarrassing. Nothing to do with Schumi, this is the usual Macca Ferrari grudge.

The rules are NO testing between races other than free practice AFAIK.

Love this from formula1.com:
Testing
From 2009 onwards testing is not allowed during the race season (from the week prior to the first Grand Prix until December 31) and is limited to 15,000 kilometres.
Eh... no testing - limited to 15000km

That's why the youngster from NZ (Brendon Hartley) left F1 - he basically joined to become a spectator...

I find this whole testing thing laughable. I for one don't believe Ferrari or any of the other teams with a track dont test their cars in secret.
How is the FIA gonna know if ferrari took their car to some track in the middle of nowhere and let Shumi drive it?

Maybe its the conspiracy theorist in me coming out, but with the budgets these guys have and the money on the line for winning, they do all sorts of undercover things - lets not forget the whole spying thing Mclaren had going on.

The risks wouldn't be worth it. IF word were to get out, Ferrari would suffer the same level of embarrassment that McLaren did with the the whole spying debacle. Besides, I don't think there is such a thing as a 'secret' F1 test - have you ever HEARD a Formula1 car? When they were out testing at Kyalami you could hear them from well over 4km away...

That, and the convoy of trucks ferrying the equipment needed to support 1 F1 car would have everyone with anything resembling a camera in hot pursuit. Ferrari do have their own track, by the way - it's called Fiorano and is part of the Ferrari factory complex.

Given all that, I would also assume that the FIA know exactly where each current F1 chassis is at the moment. You don't just churn out an extra F1 car either...

F1 is expensive, you really think ferrari don't have cash to build an extra car? That is pocket change to them.

Why are we even arguing this? Gran'pa Schumi isn't going to see the inside of a current F1 Ferrari before the next GP. Even then he'll be lucky, as his neck is apparently still troubling him as a result of that motorbike crash in Feb.

They can give him a beer before he drives the car and say that he's testing the effects of alcohol on F1 drivers.

Doubts about Schumi's fitness:
Michael Schumacher's return to Formula 1 in Valencia later this month remains subject to a medical clearance after his spokeswoman Sabine Kehm revealed that concerns linger over the strength of his neck.

The seven-time world champion was injured in a motorcycle testing accident earlier this year, and Kehm admitted that until he had been given the all-clear there was still a possibility that he may not race in the European Grand Prix on August 23.

"It is not sure yet the neck will hold and the comeback can be started," Kehm said on Wednesday.

"It depends on medical investigations. Only after those will it be clear whether he will be able to drive."

Schumacher has already spent a day testing a two-year-old F2007 Ferrari F1 car at Mugello, using GP2 slicks, and claims to have lost 3kg in training as he prepares to stand in for the injured Felipe Massa in Spain.

The 40-year-old continued his build up today by going karting with Ferrari's regular test driver Luca Badoer.

"Karting has a very good training effect, that is why today I just jumped into a testing day of the Tony Kart Team in Lonato," he told his website. "There is nothing better for my preparations at the moment - in terms of steering wheel forces for example Karting is even more difficult than F1.

"And the fact that it has been boiling hot here is simulating the temparatures expected for Valencia. Luca is with me, and together we found again today that karting is just an awful lot of fun."

Kehm added that it was always going to be the case that Schumacher would only race if he was deemed fit enough to do so: "From the very beginning it was made clear Michael would require medical checks. It is normal.

"Michael is fully geared up, and fully on it. He has been for a week now. But he is a human being, and we have to make sure everything is fine."

Pity the old fart couldn't get his neck right - I would've preferred seeing him get annihilated on track...
