Awesome!

It is however a pity that this guy will end up owning the patent in the near future:

The guy who died near the end of that movie?

Hollywood likes to give us the unrealistic happy ending (or we viewers are so shortsighted we THINK it's a happy ending)...but in the real world, however...

I'm surprised, with the current water crises all over the globe, there isn't more emphasis on technologies like this. There is a clear benefit to all of humanity being somewhat overlooked.

This is amazing. Imagine how much less salt will cost if this concept goes large scale.

LOL - salt is dirt cheap - imagine how much more usable/drinkable water we could have. I could finally go berserk watering my garden, take 2 hour showers without people making me feel bad about said 2 hour showers, finally have that waterbed I always wanted etc etc etc. Priorities lost because of a water crisis :(

Oh - and of course - those people drinking sewer water because of a lack of clean water can finally stop doing that.

It all boils down to cost. Some of the best technologies around never matured because either they didn't scale up, or if they did it was too expensive

Thats what I initially thought, till I realized the amount of money we as a species are willing to burn in useless endeavors (war, moving of Parliament etc) , seems a shame that we can't rather divert those funds in to something that can actually benefit our species and generations to come as a whole. An outsider looking in would be inclined to think we're not a very forward looking species in the slightest. :whistling:

We will as a species continue to spend money on wars, Ferraris, private jets, etc...the people who do this will not have a shortage of water....but likely benefit from selling expensive water, and so it being a finite resource is good for them.

We are forward thinking, but have a tendency to be selfish

Well, there are already desalination techniques that are hellishly expensive so I'm assuming that this is news because it's potentially a low cost solution. Having said that, the article does seem to go great lengths of avoiding saying that this process is in fact cheap or potentially cheap.
