SDPVR dual view problem

After 5 years I decided to get my SDPVR running again. Works fine as a single view decoder, but the 2nd TV is showing the same program as the main TV.
Does it require Dstv/Multichoice to activate this? And is there an extra charge for dual view?
Any assistance will be appreciated.

Yes you need aks MC to activate xtraview and its about R90 extra a month (also allows you to record)

The SDPVR is not extraview, it has built in dual view. I have already activated the record function, but the decoder is not displaying the dual channel on the 2nd TV, it shows the main channel on both TVs. I think that MC must activate it on the SDPVR, but I am not sure whether it is just a setting in the settings menu.

The SDPVR has been decommisioned as far as I know, for a good couple of years now, MC isn't going to do squat unfortunately.

The only reason I have kept the SDPVR is the dual view function. I do have an HDPVR (the first one), but it requires dual cables, a 2nd decoder and switches to get TV in the bedroom. The SDPVR is a very elegant solution.

the subscription name has changed but its still the the same service, any way as Lupus said its been decommissioned.
having used this decoder i would know.

What are you on about?
Dual cables the SDPR needs 2 LNB cables as well that's probably why you not getting the second channel Try recording on an H channel while watching a V channel and watch it bomb out. the only difference is yo uneed a heart beat cable between the decoders and if they in the same room its not even an issue.
And you don't need special switches to watch the second decoder? can run it via RF - I have this setup can even use the remote Eye from your SD PVR in your second room and it works on the HD PVR (again tested and works).
Though I agree the single unit is easier to set up - Its not HD (and if you check the forums plenty of people ask for an HD version)

Get a new SMart LNB and you can use the unicable port and only have 1 cable to your HDPVR

Why ask questions on the Forum if you going to say i know and you are wrong?

I have previously connected the SD and HD decoders together. They do need a switch. Your "recommendation" is just going to cost a lot - money I don't have. And as I am 70, I really don't give a **** about HD.
The SD has dualview built in, so why would MC disable it? Nothing more than trying to force subscribers to purchase a new (expensive) decoder.
If I can get the SD dualview enabled then I will be quite happy with my decoder.
And BTW, the SD is connected to the dish with a dual LNB and dual cables. I just don't want to run dual cables through the house.

OK The Switch you are referring to is the Multi switch - and clearly you don't understand how it works - its not used to connect the 2 decoders together - its to convert the 2 cables from your LNB into the 4 you need for the HD PVR. Depending if you had a 2x6 or 2x8 Multi switch you will have 2 or 4 extra to use for your SD PVR - any way if you still have the switch and MC wont activate the Function on your SDPVR you will have to use the HDPVR. I still don't know what you're on about about running dual cables through the hose though - unless you want the decoders in different rooms.

MC have not disabled it they discontinued support for it - go ask them.

Now The SDPVR has dual view built in correct ( it actually has 3 Tuners 2 view and 1 record) but you still need 2 LNB Cables. So you connected the 2 cables and its not working - like i said in my first post you need to call them to activate it and pay the extra access fee (xtraview) - it was probably around R65 backs when you last had it used it. you probably paid it once as it was the same fee they charge you for the xtraview you had before - so you were paying for it.

As it happens, the SDPVR is now giving two watchable channels, but is is very confused. The RF cable to the bedroom is sending the TV1 screen instead of TV2 - which is the wrong way around. I have to use the TV2 RCA cables for my lounge TV, but its sound is not controllable with the decoder remote, so I have to use the TV's remote for volume control. And the damn thing reboots every hour.
It would seem that some download from MC has screwed with this decoder. Maybe MC trying to force me to get a new decoder??

Probably because it's been decommed and you're correct they want you to get a new decoder. Think you can do an sdpvr swap

Are you sure the second TV is tuned correctly?

Assuming you're outputting the signal to the second TV via coax, if you are seeing the picture for TV1, try tuning the TV a bit more, and you will see the second picture, if not the picture, something about "TV2 disabled. or TV2 standby", as coax carries the picture for both TV1, and TV2
