Hi
I'm new here and I've exhausted my search options already. I have recently acquired a Sony Ericcson W810i on a MyCall100 contract.
Problem 1. *123# registration goes through but still no connection is made after installing settings, restarting phone etc.

Problem 2. I thought it was my sim card, an old 16K so I wanted to test out the 32k theory by buying a 32K PAYG (2.4) card loaded it with 10Mb data bundle and *123# registered again. Still no connection.

Problem 3. I thought maybe if I were to upgrade the firmware (Sony Ericcson update) it would solve my problem. 23Mb download and some extra web time later my phones firmware was upgraded. Still no connection. The message I get is "Connection Failure, Check Settings, If problem persists call operator/SP"

In between all of this I called MTN 808 and what ever else and I discovered that my basic data service was not active on my contract, they activated it (of course this does not matter for the PAYG account). They reset my cell number on the network and sent me the settings MTN-WAP-GPRS and MTN-DATA repeatedly even after explaining my problem to them ad nauseum. Well I know now like everyone else here knows that MTN helpdesk is like some kind of evil Scott Adams/Dilbert plot to drive people insane.

So if you have taken the time to read this I thank you and would be eternally grateful if you could please solve my problem. To quote Mr Burns from the Simpsons "A shiny new donkey to anyone" who can solve this problem.

Thanks

Hi
I've tried activation from the sony ericcson website. Still no connection. Quick question though, do the IP and DNS addresses have to be filled in? Also the username and password fields are blank.
Please advise.
Thanks

Have you use SE PC Suite to create the connection???
The PC Suite automatically search the setting (sent from MTN or SE) installed on the phone and create connection.

Hope this helps
Ps: I use SE W810 + bluetooth + Toshiba notebook

I'll back this advice. The settings don't get updated regularly enough. Start with SE site.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I still have no luck! I will try using the PC suite for checking my settings and then get back to you on that. Could it be a handset problem? I guess not if it still makes and receives calls and the lil E in the corner indicates an edge network is available so at least it detects that it just seems to time out everytime I try to connect to the network

Try *99***5# as your profile dial up

Here I am again back to report that my phone still has no connection. Tried using PC suite to establish the connection still nothing. Thanks to all who tried to help. I will be taking my handset back to the store, the guy who works there has a w810i so I'll ask him to test his sim in my phone.
Will let you know how this pans out.
Thanks

Hi all
Still no luck, I'm happy you got your system working spleencheese. I've finally got my MTN dealer (after a MTN/Sony Ericcson conference call regarding settings, strange how they tend to want to treat one like an idiot) to agree to send the phone to sony ericcson but they have no loan phones so I'm gonna wait till they get a loan phone before I part with mine.
Hang loose!

There is a lot of detail missing so we can't really advise.

Start from scratch ...

Does WAP work from your phone? Try and get that going before connecting to a PC>
