Seacom suffers cable break

Seacom has announced that it has been experiencing a service outage on its subsea cable system in the Red Sea region since Saturday, 24 February 2024.

The company says it has been unable to confirm the cause of the cable break and added that other cables in the area also appear to be impacted.

It said the disruption is only on the segment of cable running from Mombasa, Kenya, to Zafarana, Egypt.
...
“Seacom still continues to carry traffic on its own cable between Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa for both transmission and IP services.”

So not a problem for us.

Good chance an anchor was dragged again... We need to have words with captains, and maybe bats with some nails added...
The Houthi's have threatened to attack the cables.

One would think on a ship that it has warnings when you are giving it throttle and the anchor is still down similar to a car and a handbrake.

interesting it happens next to an active conflict zone, maybe they finally weren't just sabre rattling, and actually cut the fibre cables.
wonder how they did it?

I'm thinking they should stop designing these things so anything can hook onto it.

well a ship anchor is kinda shaped like a fish hook. it is going to dig it up...

Someone need to go bomb the bejesus out of these terrorist groups.
Ja I don't know if you out of the loop, but thats sort of what's been happening for last few years and sort of why they did the cable cutting.
