Second Display via Mini DVI to DVI cable

Hello,

I just managed to setup the Macbook Pro 2011 13" I bought. Ordered a Kanex Mini DVI to DVI cable from Takealot (http://www.takealot.com/kanex-iadapt-dvi-cable-3m-mini-display/PLID36958326) to use with my Samsung 23" DVI Monitor. At the moment I'm using Windows 8.1 (need to download Mac OS), but I can't get this thing to work. No matter what I try a secondary display doesn't come up. Running latest Intel HD 3000 drivers from last month.

Any tips?

How is it that it didn't come with OsX?
