Didn't read the article, but is this related to the massively increased road tax on cars registered after a certain date?

so even your old jalopy now has some value, interesting how shortages in Chips affect a completely different industry.

The article only mentioned COVID as the cause, the usual supply chain issues excuse.

ahh..

well the supply chain is completely ****ed. Added to that, the shortage of truck drivers here is causing havoc in the harbours. My stepson just got told his container will take six months to get from SA to UK... Ships are being turned away from ports.

Talk about a click bait headline.

Dealers are having such a tough time sourcing autos that 17% of vehicles no more than a year old are now more expensive than their new equivalents, according to Auto Trader.

So sought after models that the manufacturers are struggling to produce are causing a price increase in that model already in the sales channel? I know one of the German makers (I think it was Merc) were quoting 12 months lead time on certain vehicle model orders recently.

I think it’s known as supply and demand…

I saw a Reddit post on a dealer adding a $10'000 markup to a Ford Bronco citing 'marked adjustment' as the reason over and above the MSRP. There's a relevant Jalopnik article on it as well.

Madness.

There was a time where that was the allure of buying a merc, you could not drive one off the floor but had to wait months for delivery.

Back then it was bragging rights. "Oh, I just ordered my E class and it will arrive in time for the next Rothmans July".
