Second hand phone, Samsung S4 or OnePlus One?

I need to get a second hand phone as a backup, should I go for a Samsung S4 or OnePlus One? They seem to be about R2000 second hand.

The One plus One is a good phone, excellent battery life.. I had one, but my screen cracked and couldn't get a replacement parts..

Where did you see it for R2000?

I'd rather get one of the Xiaomi's new for close to that... No need to worry if the battery is buggered or what happens if it breaks.

Ive had both (still use a 1+ for my daily phone).

If the 1+ is still in good nick, Ill recommend it. Its still very fast, even though its quite old.

I have a OnePlus One. Typing on it right now in fact. It's an epic phone, but you will have a serious problem if something happens to it.

If you're willing to take that risk, the phone can give you godlike battery life. My phone has the latest CM13 firmware, is rooted and has the Xposed framework installed. Using Greenify and Amplify to reduce battery draining stuff like frivolous wakelocks and frequent location requests by Google, I'm consistently getting 6+ hours of screen on time. Atm I'm at 4 hours with 53% battery remaining. Haven't charged since yesterday morning.

Get the OnePlus One between the two, its much newer, more powerful (3GB RAM + Snapdragon 801), much lighter skin than S4, still gets OS updates etc etc... Only justification for S4 is hardware support if it breaks, but if you get a good case and tampered glass screen protection you'll be sorted.
