Second hard lockdown warning for South Africa

In the area I live in, people walk the streets en masse (Cause it's one of the fewer safe areas to walk the streets) and literally drive to park here then walk around, and guess what, like 10% wear masks.

The gym (Virgin) was good at the beginning, but now is getting slack. I clean my machines etc, I would say 60% of people don't, and it's usually the oke that could do with burning some extra calories wiping a machine.

If you go out to any pub, it's like a normal night out, no masks, everyone drinking and doing as it was a year ago.

So I get why it's heading that way. I think we are just lucky it's so hot in JHB, as I don't think the virus thrives in this weather.

I was told by a aquantance who does maintenance at Tambo memorial in Boksburg that the extra tents that they put up for the extra influx of covid patients have been completely empty since May/June.

I'd love to try some. Send me a quart or two for "research" purposes.
no can do
i drink it quicker than what i can make it, so im still a little dependent on buying Black Labels at the moment, unless i cut down from my daily 3 litres quota

What if decisions are made based on the wrong info? I'm not always sure that we have the necessary qualified people to assess the infections and/or mix it up with infections like flu and/or manipulate figures for political gains etc...

Never-the-less, if a decision is made based on a false bottom it could later turn out to be catastrophic for all concerned AND the Government will not escape it's effects either...ALL the holy cows will be slaughtered as well...

Lastly, I'd be glad if I'm proven wrong, VERY glad indeed. Anyway...

I was in Maphumalanga this past weekend, felt like a fool when only me and my family wearing masks in public. even God's window we wore masks going up all those staires. we got snotty remarks about how lockdown was over and how corona never existed. no authorities cared not even the lodge or restaurants said a word to anyone not wearing a mask. it was only the spar in malelane that commented but the rest just looked past it

Those religious gatherings and such will happen regardless of what the ANC wants at this point in my opinion.

I know of a good many companies that used to have a "Christmas shutdown" that have taken the opportunity this year to break that expectation and are now going to work straight through and have told their staff that the Christmas break is a thing of the past now. They will get their 15 days leave to take whenever they want during the year rather than having to take it all during a forced break at the end of the year.
The problem is if we are going to have a lockdown in December, the ANC would have already known that this is going to happen months ago and should have made preparations to reduce the impact the lockdown will have on the economy.

It boggles my mind that schools (excluding matrics) have closed for this week despite the fact learners have already missed nearly 2 months of learning and the school year hasn't been extended in a meaningful way.

I think we are just lucky it's so hot in JHB, as I don't think the virus thrives in this weather.

Don't assume that it doesn't. The virus spread like wildfire during the spring and summer months in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran. Temperature and humidity has no bearing on how quickly it might spread.

I was told by a aquantance who does maintenance at Tambo memorial in Boksburg that the extra tents that they put up for the extra influx of covid patients have been completely empty since May/June.

It's better to have the additional room and not need it, really.

The numbers have been flat at 1.6k cases per day for months now.
What doesn't make sense is the active cases. It's hovering at 50k active cases for 4 months. If you have mild symptoms for 2 weeks then we should be at max 28k cases (14d x 2k per day). Why is it double? Are there 25k people that are sick in hospital? Have we not bothered to ask people that were sick if they're better? Is it actually 3 or 4 weeks that people are sick?
The math doesn't add up at all to what is being communicated.

It seems there are a lot of people here who think that having the public wear cloth masks makes a difference, and not complying seems to be partly why we're being threatened with lockdown punishment (in conjunction with staying out after midnight).

But prior to Covid-19, their ineffectiveness in containing outbreaks of influenza/coronavirus/rhinovirus type diseases was fairly uncontroversial and apolitical, with virtually every prior study showing little or no effect. And certainly if you look at the empirical data from every area or population where public masks were mandated, there is pretty much nowhere where there is any discernible effect, regardless of the level of compliance. In SA, they were mandatory from May 1 when we still had a very low level of infections - the cases went on to peak in mid-July. The same pattern repeats pretty much everywhere.

In fact, the pattern is so pervasive, I'm starting to wonder if they don't make the problem worse. Masks are effective in a healthcare setting where trained professionals use proper surgical or N95 masks which they dispose of regularly. But how many people replace their masks after every use, or even wash or sanitise them daily? Effectively, we're breathing through cloths that we leave on surfaces, shove in our pockets with car keys and cell phones, etc. And I know people who are still wearing the same masks they had at the beginning, which they have never washed or sanitised in any way!

Effectively, large numbers of people are walking around breathing through a Petri dish made of cloth that has been accumulating every pathogen it has come into contact with for months, yet we seem to feel making people do this is sensible?

So, once again, the end is imminently near ... this was all very much inevitable. The powers-that-be enjoyed the power to be able to lock down their minions. That vice-like grip is losing its effect. And this is why these threats and counter threats are resurfacing.

That would just be plain stupid. It will achieve **** all.

A large percentage of the population doesn't adhere to the lockdown rules anyway so the only thing a second lockdown will achieve is wrecking what remains of the economy. Frikken idiots.

Malnutrition became a problem and will become even worse with a second lockdown and lives will be lost that way.
