Section 25 amendment: South Africa’s historical moment in the land debate

Hot on the heels of President Ramaphosa telling the European Parliament on Wednesday that South African land reforms will be enacted in adherence to the country’s Constitution, the joint constitutional review committee has formally recommended today that section 25 of the Constitution be amended to allow for expropriation of land without compensation.

The first thing to protect oneself is to ensure that you have no further investments in the JSE. Investor capital outflows will now hurt all investments in the stock exchange. Secondly, if possible, sell your property and try to get something out of it while you still can. Once the constitution is changed, you will never be guaranteed of property rights ever again and properties will be worth nothing.

When the ANC loses power, what will stop the next party in power from expropriating the land back from the people who it was expropriated to?
Are we opening a hole through which we will eternally be fighting over land?

Precisely. South Africa is done. There is no other ways to rescue it or turn it around. The only question now is how much do you stand to lose?

Not really, the people scared of the JSE already took everything out. Only stuff left is reg28 compliant pensions and die hards that will never leave. Don't tell people to sell now at the bottom, that's irresponsible.

Nothing irresponsible. Just facts. If you want to lose money, keep it in JSE shares.
