Self defence will not be a valid reason to own a gun in SA under a newly-revived draft law

Should "self defence" continue to be a valid reason for owning a firearm?

If I was being conspiratorial, I'd say the government wants it to be easier for people, who are doing ok, to be robbed by those who aren't.

How else can you explain these laws that always seem to favour criminals.

Criminals have more "rights" in this country than tax earning and paying citizens.

So basically the only people left with guns in SA would be the Zama Zamas, gangsters and criminals. And of course the SAPS but they have proven themselves to be corrupt, selling guns and ammo to gangsters, incompetent and just all around uncaring.

You want a recipe for disaster, the ANC are putting together the perfect storm.

This is not a conspiracy, but it goes much deeper than that. Yes, criminals are complaining about being met with armed victims and being shot when robbing people to get money, guns and more to make a living.

Also, with EWC government will be met with armed protest here in SA. There have been rumors doing to round for some years now that they will have to disarm the people before implementing EWC.

Precisely.

Luckily, the government made one mistake. They allow for way too many illegal guns in circulation. Even if they do take the guns from law abiding citizens, it will not be very difficult to get your hands on one if you ever do need it.

Did anyone miss the part where minister of police announces that policing is being defunded by 4 Billion rands and VIP Protection is being increased by 2 Billion rands?
That tells you everything about how the cANCer views the public.

With laws like this and criminal activities inside the government, right to the top, they do in fact need to increase that budget.

If I was being conspiratorial, I would say we are in for a chit storm that the government is about to unleash on us in the form of EWC, huge financial upheaval and whatever else they have got cooked up.

Every socialist/communist country has done what the ANC are doing now, disarming their citizens before the chit hits the fan and we the people are unable to do anything to protect ourselves from both the government and the criminality that will increase exponentially.

And the likes of Mogoeng Mogoeng being a Christian should have known better when the CC ruled that guns were a privilege and not a right. Now he will suffer just like everyone else.

Yep, history never fails to repeat itself.

This is a stupid change. While statistically you will not effectively protect yourself or your family with a gun, I don't think that people shouldn't be allowed to own certain types of firearms.

Locked bedroom doesn't help your children in another room.

Best have your gun ready always - legal or illegal, depending on if this law becomes reality.
Isn't is sadly tragic that it has come to this. A putrid government so selfserving that the country has turned to shyte yet they are so proud of what they have accomplished is a ****ing joke. So inept and hellbent on taking everything away from the people because apartheid.

Yeah, only in South Africa, the country with the highest crime rate in the world, the country with the most violent people in the world, where a women is raped every few seconds, where a house is invaded every few seconds, where people are robbed every few seconds, where people are shot and killed every few seconds, where crimnals are in possession of up to an estimated 9 million illegal firearms, only in this country are the leaders so bright that they will take away your rights to own a gun for self-defense.

This has long been the plan of the ANC - disarm the public. Then they can take land, steal and do what they want. If anyone complain, they will line you and your family up in the streets and shoot you all in the head.

This should go to the concourt to be tested. And, if they agree, it is time to flee this nest.
The unfortunate reality is, it appears to be a global push.

Mostly in your socialist countries, like South Africa and now America. It will only have tragic consequences at the end of the day though.

I wonder if criminals would be more inclined to kill if they knew victims didn't have guns. Farmers are sometimes targeted for the guns they keep. The flip side is that crime would probably sky rocket as armed criminals would be fearless. The criminals likely to kill would kill regardless.

Side: Saw a sickening video on twitter of a criminal shooting a guy from the back for what looks like a phone or wallet. He runs up to the guy, shoots him in the back twice and then again after he's down. That kind of scum needs putting down.

Over and above all this.... how much in R70 renewal fees the government will lose in income? Law abiding citizens will rather hide that illegal firearm somewhere it will not be found and government is out of pocket by tens of millions perhaps?

Dear Mr N Ntwana,
I am a South African citizen, having been born here in XXXX. Currently, I am the XXXX @ XXXX and a XXXX by Qualification. I share this background in the hope that you and all other members involved in the legislative changes proposed seriously consider the ramifications of the proposal which have been proposed.

The proposed amendments to the to the Firearms Control Act are most concerning and if implemented would result in myself and my immediate family relocating from South Africa.

The contents proposed therein, specifically in relation to individual ownership and possession are obscene and highlight a complete disregard for the terror which so many citizens face on a daily basis due to the scourge of crime in South Africa and I am confident that this fear is something you and your family are aware of as well.

I object and am not in favor, unconditionally to any proposed amendments which:

-Attempts to remove or limit the right of South Africans to possess a firearm for self defense
-Attempts to reduce the limit of ammunition which may be stored by South Africans possessing valid licenses
-Attempts to reduce or limit the number of firearms which sports shooters may have as there is no logical grounds for such a limitation
-Aims to remove the provision that a person who submits a firearm during an amnesty period be allowed to apply for a license in respect of the firearm submitted

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

Can someone enlighten me on a valid reason to own a gun then? Let's put hunting aside for a second (rifle)...
Who would apply for a gun and why?
So the farm or home invaders can take your house and belongings with their AK's while you stand with a butter knife.
But just remember, it's murder until they threaten you physically, so please be friendly to them until then.
