According to all the Telkom techies I've spoken to, my ADSL port was allocated on the 8th of September ( :D :D ) so now that the port has been allocated, do I need to wait for anything else on the techie's side or can I go and pickup the self install kit and be up and running tomoro afternoon????? Reason I ask is that my mom was told by someone that even though the port has been allocated, the techie still has to enable it or something at the exchange

Telkom are so confused by their own "services" its scary.

I ordered it and was then waiting to be allocated ports.
I was getting irritated of waiting so i phoned in a favour and a techie came 2my house and tested the line etc and activated it no problem. (basically what u r sposed 2do.)

I installed my modem and went to the www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl and guess what, there was some kind of problem or my adsl could not be verified.

But it works perfectly...
So who knows.

As far as I understand it, if a port is allocated, then they still need to drive to the exchange and connect your phone line to it.

Yes, i believe that, that is also true as far as i know.
BUT that being said, a guy i know did it without someone doing that, so who knows.

phone installation number thing i think its 0800 456 786 and ask them if its ready for self installation, if they say yes then get your kit off, heh i mean get you kit and BAM off you go :D
