Hi guys

My parents are moving house in a few months, and I was wondering how 'fibre ready' I can get the new place for them before Openserve/one of their contractors need to be called out.

Can I pull this cable (from hdcabling) through the house, making sure I leave more than enough slack for the guys doing the installation (and splicing) later on? Or is there a more specific (compatible) type of cable I need to use.

PVC piping through the yard, and to & from the manhole is already provided for.

I assume that there is a Boundary Box already on the property so its just a matter of the installation... Either way, Normally the stretch of Fiber cable they will pull onto your premises is already prepped... meaning it has a Pigtail Already on it at predetermined lengths. This fits fine through standard 20mm PVC piping it is however the bends that might prove to be the issue. This is why they plan it when they come out

So you can lay the 20mm PVC Piping but your bends from like the ground cant be sharp and there is no PVC bend soft enough... unless you get a wider pipe which gives the Pigtail freedom... it may seem excessive with the wider piping but if you dont want them to rip up your neatly prepared piping because it cannot be done through your bends then that might be best...

I laid 20mm Piping that they used but the removed all the corner segments.

the pig tail is about 3-4cm long as once they get into you premises this is what connects into the CPE box installed to the location you specify... the Fibre cable itself is pretty flexible ..

Also Openserve Uses 3rd party contractors now VS inhouse technitians of old so my friends tell me their timings have improved over old times from their experience.

I would think the only thing you could do is PVC piping, but also keep in mind they are going to bill you the same amount with or without anything in place, unless it's an above normal long run.

They usually install the same day so generally not worth investing in anything yourself, aside from conduits possibly and make sure you use slow bends then.

Cable, no. Ducts, maybe. You're taking a big fat chance though.

Personally, I doubt they'll use whatever you provide. Especially not cable. And no - that cable you posted isn't the right cable either.

Where will it enter the house and where will the router be located? Just make sure that path is free of obstructions.

In my case they used the old phone cable as a draw wire. Problem was the phone jack was located in the kitchen and you don't want the wall outlet/ont/router in your kitchen (and probably your lounge area etc) so got them to route the fibre underneath the overhead cupboards and up the side into the ceiling and then down into the one corner of the spare bedroom.

So look at your situation and see if you maybe need some 10mm ega trunking etc to neaten things up etc.
