I began this post for another thread: unfinished. Excuse me if I drop it in here (sorry for the crosspost.)
When will we learn that you can never teach monkeys to count? After all, this country has a government that it deserves! The majority voted for them, so the majority will have to take the bitter (which is plentiful) with the sweet (of which there is not much). I am following kilo39 to go and vomit.
Not so sure I agree with the sentiments entirely. I agree the country has the government it deserves and I agree the majority voted for them: however we have to ask how this government came about; it consists of people exiled to other countries and other people who 'were not granted the privileges of the previous government.' (What is the average age of the government?) However (having said that) this government seems anathema to the people (though they vote for them.) Unfortunately also much a product of our previous regime (and the kids seem to have little sense of history.)
For people 'on the other side' it is very easy to buy into the propaganda (it is endlessly extolled by our Prez and sabc; any party body, media.) (And in truth: besides us here and the few informed who else has any clue: or even how direct is their need, do they even know they have a need?) It is also easy for us to sit in our cyberworlds but 'out there' millions of south africans (black africans? people) are living their lives as best they are able; interacting with each other, getting on.
(as far as I got)
We have a philosophical conundrum: this government is not the government for the people (no matter the propaganda) and while they may have done good there is much ill and NOTHING of their policies, speeches or acts are acceptable to a "western, capitalistic, LIBERAL" point of view. Yes even socialist. This government pretends to build while it destroys (and they grow richer and continue to keep 'the people' in the dark through their propaganda.)
Then we get the MORONS that tell people to leave.
Yes I can leave and I sometimes wonder if I should not leave you lot to it: you deserve it?! (All those years of apartheid.) But then again I think of the children and the millions of 'everyday' south africans (if I could give all the whiteys a passport I would.) But the curse is upon us all. And THIS is not the government or policy or attitude or >actions< that WE want.
And we are f#kked considering the myopia on this thread.
How is not landing cables not anti-competitive, anti-capitalist (even anti-social/socialist.) How is the tacit support and approval of bob not 'anti-democratic, (perhaps even full communist?)
I am not a lover of capitalists but this government is neither: seeming to exist for their own power, enrichment and fu#ked up ideology.
Sickening.
