The Hawks will investigate police corruption and possible SAPS involvement,

Hawks now say they are looking into report alleging SAPS involvement in Free State stock theft

I see the Hawks have finally admitted to having received the report last year. I am glad News24 reported on it, it means a great deal with the bias going on.

Apparently, they also just realized he was arrested previously for rape and kidnapping of two minors in 2001 but he is only being charged now for it. This just shows how inept the police are and how totally out of control crime is in our country that he can slip through the cracks AND still got bail in 2020. All while getting a disability grant from government. Why was the rapes of minors not mentioned at his bail hearing? This is the guy the EFF was saying was justified for killing the farmers. A guy who has a criminal record so long it takes months to uncover.

Maybe they have realised the moment the Hawks was compelled to investigate a police corruption report which they have shelved for a year long for reasons unknown. Matlaletsa could very well be a pawn in the larger scheme of corrupt things.

There, can I also now become president (or at least the minister of Police)?

I think the policemen probably have relatives and farms somewhere themselves and they use these dumb uneducated criminals to get them free stock without the policemen themselves having to dirty their hands.

Brendin Horner murder: Case postponed again, this time due to outstanding DNA test results

The criminal case against the two men accused of murdering Free State farm manager Brendin Horner has been delayed again as the DNA test results are still outstanding, almost six months after the arrests.

Sekwetje Mahlamba, 32, and Sekola Matlaletsa, 44, appeared in the Senekal Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where the matter was postponed to 13 May for further investigation.

The State asked for a further postponement because the DNA analysis tests had not yet been completed. It was argued that issues at the forensic laboratory were to blame for the delay.

This is the fifth postponement since the outcome of the accused's bail application near the end of October 2020.

Interesting.

Let's put it this way.

The criminal case against the two men accused of murdering former criminal Nelson Mandela has been delayed again as the DNA test results are still outstanding, almost six months after the arrests.

Interesting.

Let's put it this way.

The thing about this trial, it is political and was attended by Bheki Cele. It was a trial in the public interest due to racial tension, and DNA tests was expedited. News only recently broke out that the SAPS's DNA system is down, and it was already down at the time this case was expedited. So how did Cele not know at the time, sure, he did or was this a hidden technicality at the time which should have been made known to the court?

Here we are with a case being postponed time and time again due to the SAPS's incompetence. A matter which was called in urgency with no urgency at all, a shame really. Sure the prosecutors should be asking the hard questions?

Justice delayed is Justice denied.

The only winners here were the EFF...

I see this case has again been postponed, 6th time in a row, next hearing is in June. The laboratory was to be blamed as usual. In June, it should be ~9 months waiting on the DNA results. The case is also moved to the Free State High Court, so the state prosecution better get their ducks in a row.

Men accused of murdering Brendin Horner released on bail following DNA evidence

The two men accused of murdering Free State farm manager, Brendin Horner, in October last year have been released on bail after it emerged they could not be linked through DNA analysis.

Sekwetje Mahlamba, 32, and Sekola Matlaletsa, 44, appeared in the Senekal Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where they applied for bail on new facts.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phaladi Shuping told News24 the court accepted the new facts, which included:

- The DNA results are available and do not link the accused to the commission of the crime;

- It was initially reported that Horner was killed in the early hours of 2 October, but now the State said he was murdered between 19:00 and 20:00 on 1 October.

News24 previously reported that bloodstained clothes had been found at Mahlamba's house when he was arrested.
Mahlamba had claimed the blood was from an animal he had slaughtered for a traditional ceremony.

However, the State said it had witness testimony that Mahlamba had not attended the ceremony.

The bloodstained clothes, Horner's hat, a knife found at the scene, and the rope used to strangle the 21-year-old farm manager were taken for forensic analysis.

It has now emerged that none of the DNA matches either of the accused, nor does the blood on Mahlamba's clothes match that of Horner, Shuping confirmed.
