Company based in Pretoria is looking for a Senior IT Technician.

The position is for an enthusiastic person with a meticulous sense of attention to detail that will take initiative in all areas.

REQUIREMENTS
• First and foremost candidate should be focused on client satisfaction and have great communication skills
• Good understanding of networking and equipment fundamentals (Ethernet, Cabling standards, TCP/IP)
• Fluent in both Afrikaans and English
• Managed Switches, Wi-Fi, Gateways, VoIP, PPPoE, Biometric access control
• Solid understanding of desktop operating systems (Microsoft and Linux), Web browsers and email clients
• Experience supporting network equipment and operating systems
• VOIP and Wireless experience
• Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
• Self-motivated, precision worker that takes pride in work
• Availability to work after hour’s standby
• Own reliable transportation
• Driver’s license
• Matric certificate
• 5+ years IT related experience
• Post-secondary school education, relating to IT

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Linux experience & certifications
• Microsoft desktop certifications MCSE/MCITP
• Microsoft server Certifications MCSE/MCITP

Salary: R 15,000 CTC

In fairness at least they're posting a figure that the company budgeted for. Doesn't seem like a "senior" position either, given that it only requires 5 years xp. So it might be a decent jump for somebody earning R8,000. Better than this market related nonsense...

As with most of the recent "job postings" on this forum, it's tata-ma-chance.
If you really want to land yourself a quality job, rather approach the smaller, reputable recruitment agency.

As low as the offering is, there will be a thousand people applying for the position. IT techies are paid very poorly in SA. I've seen threads where techies in other provinces with similar work experience take home <R10k per month, without medical aid or other perks. This career pays very poorly, unless one does their ComptiA, MS, or other certificates.
