Hi all,

Just wondering if you could help me out here... I am looking for an internet service at home. Mostly for downloading and uploading biggish files and then for some online gaming...

Do I sign up with Sentech when they finally get the tower up by me? or do I go with a 128K ISDN setup?

Thanks for any input.

Depends on what games you are looking to play. if you want to play FPS types then the latency on MyWi is terrible. Do a search throu old posts for gaming, you'll find plenty of this has already been discussed before

Go with ISDN 128 - low latency, high bandwidth, no contract, comparable cost.

No, the cost is not comparable - with ISDN you need an additional ISDN ISP at an extra cost of R250 over and above the R680 you get quoted, making it close to a grand a month.

If you want online gaming, MyWireless is not an option because of high latency. Go for ISDN instead but be aware of the REAL cost.

Well, here I'd actually recommend ADSL, its "always on" and if you can get by the nasty 3 gig cap, then thats perfect, specially for online gaming locally

You can buy a 9 gig cap and with everything (including rental) would be the same as 512k mywireless

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!

Bugger. I meant ADSL *not* ISDN. Sorry.

ADSL all the way baby. I ping sub 20ms to most gameservers in .za

Ingame pings are normally 30-40ms... Even if you're going to be playing the slowest RTS out there, why risk crap like packetloss? Besides if you ever do want to play any kind of FPS, there's just NO WAY, it can be done on MyWireless. It just sucks for it.

In fact, it just sucks. Period.
