"Marcel Raath, Sentech's executive of sales and marketing, says a key measure will be to cut back on “network abuse” to allow all users to get an equal share of bandwidth available.

Raath says a platform is being set up to monitor excessive usage and downloading on the network."

Thus, Sentech are now introducing a CAP. This should just finally show anyone that ADSL is actually a better option.

I use ADSL and all i can say is althought u may have k@k now, at least sentech seems to be trying to sort it out albiet slowly, telkom just sit back read hellcom.co.za, laugh a bit, then get back to doing absolutely nothing to make things better. Wish Telkom would make a bit of an effort to improve things!!!

Priest, you're not understanding dude. They're not actually doing ANYTHING, they're just spinning the media, and blaming their USERS for the poor peformance of their service.

I can still download at 50KB/s from tucows on my adsl connection, even tho I'm capped. Telkom has enough bandwidth, and manage it.

Sentech doesn't, and aren't, and aren't planning on buying any soon.

I think they are and as i said "Slowly". They gonna have to make things better any way with Wireless Business Solutions coming out now. They are also trying to get a slice of the SAT3 pie from telkom to give you more bandwidth. I and not fighting with you I am just pointing out that at least there is a ball and it might get rolling in the case of sentech, ADSL will go in reverse and call it progression. RoDent get ADSL, and see what a 3 gig cap is like, sure i can down load from tucows to my hearts content but unfortunatly that is not why i use broadband. I do a hell of alot of work on the net, all over seas. That cap is a killer and it means at least 2 accounts a month. The only way forward will be with sentech/WBS price wise. Maybe Sentech was released far to soon and they should have covered alot more too but it is too late now, just be glad that there is a possibility that it will get better, ADSL there is no chance!

A Sentech technician just phoned me. Gosh.[:D]

He said that the problems will only be fixed by the end of August.[V] But at least he admitted there was a problem.

>>>>
http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/internet/2004/0407211006.asp

Marcel Raath, Sentech's executive of sales and marketing, says a key measure will be to cut back on “network abuse” to allow all users to get an equal share of bandwidth available.

Raath says a platform is being set up to monitor excessive usage and downloading on the network.

“The past three months have shown that there are a small number of customers whose usage can be termed as ‘network abuse' in terms of the paragraph headed ‘excess utilisation of network resources' in our acceptable use policy. All users have accepted, and agreed to abide by, this policy and non-compliance is resulting in degradation, creating a knock-on effect for all MyWireless users.
<<<<
Typical, just blame the users.

Let's see, if the bandwidth problem started 3 months ago, and will only be fixed in 2 months time, that means everyone is entitled to a 5 month refund ...

Maybe someone brave could take Sentech to the small claims court and just claim for 1 month. Marcel Raath (or someone else) would have to defend it in his private capacity. Once he loses, every other subscriber can do the same thing [}:)] This should be fun!

I note he said "... is being set up ..." because they didn't buy the network administration software when they set up the system. So right now they can't enforce the AUP even if they wanted to!

BTW, I have posted some nice looking graphs at http://privacy.4mg.com/#BROADBAND that illustrates the bandwidth problem quite well.
