quote:
The Sentech provision is seen as an attempt by government to significantly up the value of the parastatal, which is expected to form part of its ongoing privatisation drive.

So either we can expect prices to skyrocket and Hellkom and Sentech to be a duopoly, or some reasonable competition... profits will be the main aim of both companies but the only way to get more money is to have more customers and to get more customers you need better prices... so hopefully Sentech will not raise prices and hire overpriced American$ to run a South African company.

BTW how can Telkom be a PSA company when they are controlled by American$?

I’m not so sure of this Mad. SBC and Telecom Malaysia own 30% of Telkom with Managerial Control according to Prof Melody. He never said what sort of control. Is it complete control or percentage control? If it is percentage control then 30% doesn’t feature for control at all.

I’m afraid if Sentech does privatise, then we know this could be a lengthy process. As Black Empowerment will override all decisions until the players are finalised. If it takes as long as the SNO, then I doubt if the banks will be prepared to put in any money. As it is look at Eskom’s losses for the last year because of the SNO. And things are no looking up either on the ministerial level either. Ivy is keeping her post and she does not have a good track record at all.

Personally, I believe that the whole saga will drag on for years and the ANC and the Empowerment Groups will make sure that they get their slice of the pie. Their will be a certain amount of "shares for pals" in the new scheme. And of course once again we as consumers will be footing the bill. Answer this. How is Eskom going to recoup its losses? R300million. This will come out of yours and my Electricity Bill, you can bet on it.
Perhaps the idea of the Old Post Office Type of Telkom was a good suggestion. This whole Privatisation Thing is turning out to be a nightmare and costly exercise.

This forum has become very depressing, not due to the members, but just exposing the reality of the situation we find ourselves in.[:(]
I see it as being similar to reading the newspapers or getting the [unabridged] news from another source where the daily crime stories are reported...
Let's add some humour to this place, come on MaD, you da man![:p]
Oh, and I have been capped for some days already, so you will need to brighten up my day with a local website thanks![)]

How about a couple of jokes then... [:)]

---------------

A young woman in Cape Town was so depressed that she decided to end her
life by throwing herself into the ocean. She went down to the docks and was
about to leap into the frigid water when a handsome young deck-hand saw her
tottering on the edge of the pier, crying.

He took pity on her and said, "Look, you've got a lot to live for. We're
off to Europe in the morning, and if you like, I can stow you away on this
ship. I'll take good care of you and bring you food every day."

Moving closer, he slipped his arm round her shoulder and added, "I'll
keep you happy, and you'll keep me happy, OK?" The girl nodded yes. After all,
what did she have to lose? Maybe a fresh start in Europewould give her
life new meaning.

That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a lifeboat. From
then on, every night he brought her three sandwiches and piece of fruit,
and they made passionate love until dawn.

Three weeks later, during a routine inspection, she was discovered by the
captain. "What are you doing here?" the captain asked. "I have an
arrangement with one of the sailors," she explained. "I get food and a
trip to Europe, and he's screwing me." "He sure is, lady," the captain said.

"This is the Robben Island Ferry making trips between RobbenIsland and the
Waterfront.

---------------

Because Dave works hard at the plant and spends most evenings bowling or playing basketball at the gym, his wife thinks he is pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club.

The doorman at the club greets them and says, ''Hey, Dave! How ya doin?'' His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to this club before. ''Oh no,'' says Dave. ''He's on my bowling team.''

When they are seated, a waitress asks Dave if he'd like his usual Budweiser. His wife is becoming uncomfortable and says, ''You must come here a lot for that woman to know you drink Budweiser.'' ''No, honey, she's in the Ladies Bowling League. We share lanes with them.'' A stripper comes over to their table and throws her arms around Dave. ''Hi, Davey,'' she says, ''Want your usual table dance?''

Dave's wife, now furious, grabs her purse and storms out of the club. Dave follows and spots her getting into a cab. Before she can slam the door, he jumps in beside her and she starts screaming at him.

The cabby turns his head and says, ''Looks like you picked up a real doozie this time, Dave!''

RPM should set up a Jokes forum where we can post the funniest jokes we get in our mail.. eh!

Hehe, look guys, we have been born into the telcrap mindset, we expect the worst to happen long before we know anything and no i do not blame us in the least, so hey lets chill and see what goes on, at this time, reading through all the forums i think we can be safe in the knowlage that with all this money Sentech have been and still are going to pump into this service i doubt they want a customer base that refuses to pay them... so hey i think things are looking ok for now, just cause telskum destroyed our souls doesnt mean we should give in into anything we dont know about as of yet.[8]

Affirmation that American$ are at the helm. And many of them wonder why so many people are pi**ed off with the US - everything's about money.

Now now now, lets not hate. I want *everyone* to buy Telkom products. I have stock in SBC and Telkom and I'm hoping for some good dividends this year.

Everybody,

Buy Sentech products and use your mobile phones to make phone calls, preferably not Vodacom, as they are owned (at least partially) by Telkom.

We want to be sure to drive Jerrek's share price down [:D]

I have always wondered what Jerek's angle is. Now I know. He is keeping track of these Telkom fools waiting for the moment to cash in.[:)]

What a fackin laugh...
If Sentech is to be privatized we're pretty much screwed, even more than we are now.

Like I've said before, if South Africa was treated right by Telkom we wouldn't need a SNO because everyone would be happy with them.

You see, when money is the only factor, then this is what happens. Telkom is still trying to screw competitive businesses unfairly even to this day with its power slowly coming to an end.
Where can we find a company that actually balances ethical business practices with the need to make profits? Where can we find a company that really cares about its staff and customers instead of window dressing?
Telkom only understands one word and that is profit. Anything else, really, is irrelevant!

No, they're not. They're just reaping the benefits of a government that dances to them playing the music. It is the *government* that is screwing competition, not Telkom.

Exactly. The only way the situation is going to improve is if enough people wake up and understand this fact.
