Hey guys I'm a little bit peed off, I bought BF2 awhile ago second hand, and now that my system and internet connction are finally sorted, I tried to play online. However I my excitement was quickly destroyed as an error message claiming that I have a non valid cd key. Any suggestions?

Go to the shop where you bought BF2 and tell them your key is invalid- probably because the dumbasses at the shop left the BF2 pack unwrapped and the CD key exposed for all to see. This is assuming your BF2 is legit.

I bought it at a "Second hand shop" (didn't want to drop the brand name dunno if it is legal to do so). As far as they are concerned the product works, single player does, and of course they don't offer warrenty on second hand items. Is it possible that the previous owner had a profile and thats what is causing the problem? Is there any other way to bypass this? Surely it must be possible for more than 1 user to use a single copy of the game?

That's the problem right there - you should know that buying from second-hand shops are a gamble. Yes the problem probably is the profile - remember the CD-KEY needs to authenticate with the central EA servers and if it's already matched with another person, you're out of luck. Alternatively you could email EA about the problem.

You should have bought a new copy which would've guranteed the game to work.

I'm a student . R70 for a R200 game sounded like a good deal. Although it might end up costing me another R200 to get the a new copy . This sucks, no other options other than getting another copy? Can't use another CD key or something?

Just download a key generator

Won't work - key generators arn't authenticated EA serials.

This is the procedure for North American customers - check the manual for the right ppl to contact here.

Lost or Missing Serial Replacement:
If you meet one of the following criteria, you can send a request along with a nominal fee to Electronic Arts for a replacement serial number.

The product is 90 days past the purchase date
The original serial number has been discarded or lost
When sending a request for a replacement serial number, please include the following:

A money order for $10.00 USD (per serial number requested) made payable to Electronic Arts.
The proof of purchase page from your manual (If you no longer have the manual, include one of the game disks as verification of ownership.
Note: If sending a disk as verification, please send it using a traceable method as Electronic Arts is not responsible for products not in its possession.

Thanks but I think it will probably just be cheaper to buy the game, the chances of anything reaching the us without being completely destroyed or lost, not to mention it taking years to do so means its out of the question. There is no support system in place in sa according to the manual. Oh well, just tell me it will be worth it . BTW is anyone playing any of the addons like euro forces, special forces and armored fury? Are they any good and does anyone know of a bundle pack I can get with them all?

You can buy a new copy from btgames @ 185.00 - SF is also the same price.

There is no bundle pack available as far as I'm aware.

Euro Force is not very popular, however Armored Fury seems to be picking up, as is SF. Vanilla is still tops tho.

Alright I'll look into it, sounds like a new copy is the way to go; the things I do for gaming . And it seems like there will be another new battlefield released in a few months Battlefield 2150 or something, imagine just buying all the upgrades and then everyone switches to the newer game doh .

Hopefully I'll be playing against you boys in the near future, until then, later! (unless of course someone comes up wit a cure to the problem then it will be a VERY near future )

dude... this cd key error is rather weird with BF2 it works like this.

U can install the game with the cd key (even fakes)
U can load the game and get to the server selection screen.... you select a server.. then it auths your key on that server.. if its banned it wil tell you.. choose another server then... you won't be banned from all the server in the world.
If it says u have invalid key.. its probably a messup in your registry.. uninstall Bf2 and then go into the registry and DELETE all the bf2 stuff.. else if you reinstall and it see's there are entries there then it doesnt rewrite them.
Make sure u are patched to 1.3 aswell then u should be able to play.

It is an orginal, but i bought it second hand. I'll try the full new install again and delete all the registry information, if it saves me the cash then that'll be great. Thanks a lot guys.
