If Ozark can continue for a few seasons its destined to be one of the greats.
Same with Narcos.

Personally, GoT is good but doesn't deserve to be one of the greats. It's a bit overhyped.

Westworld S2 actually looks better than S1.

Twilight Zone is listed twice, Mystery Science not so much.

Nobody includes MST3K. Ah well it's bound to remain a cult classic, but I think it's one of the best all-time TV comedy writing.

I'd through in shows currently still running or very recent as:
Ray Donovan
Bosch
Halt and catch fire (one of my favourites)
Billions
Peaky Blinders
Stranger Things
Narcos
The Expanse
The Man in the High Castle

^^All obviously having had more than just 1 season, thus far... some other which only has 1 season thus far I have purposefully excluded, as a season 2 either makes or breaks a show... e.g. Preacher, Outcast (a little bit)

Shows that only had 1 season to start off with which I would recommend:
11.22.63
The Night Manager

Bojack Horseman. Just started season 2 and it already feels like an improvement over the first.

We may well be in a period of period of mediocrity, but it takes a few seasons for a show to gain a following and to make it onto a greatest TV shows list. Which is why some good current shows like Westworld have not yet made it onto these lists.

With the glut of new TV shows, networks are quick to cancel shows at the first sign of faltering ratings, which means most shows do not get the chance to make it past a couple of seasons.

Also, I don't think it has to be a dichotomy whereby things are either GOAT level or mediocre.

To your 2nd point, I think it's good that companies like Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu etc. are committing to produce at least whole seasons (sometimes more) of a show at a time. It gives showrunners a chance to create something proper without being hounded by episode-by-episode ratings chasers.

i missed the whole mad men and boardwalk empire train...

Intentionally?

Both are excellent.

I watched a lot of Mad Men but I couldn't really consider it to be an all time great show. It's good but I can take it or leave it.

Another of my all time favorites is Avatar. Can't wait for the Bluray release next month.

I watched the first season of Avatar, and then for some reason never started the second, even though I loved the first

Cannot find a series called Avatar on IMDB. Point me in right direction please?
