The White Lotus location was available for the series because of COVID shutting down tourism. Worked out cheaper for them to hire than it would have been usually...wouldn't be surprised if the same happened for these other shows.
I somehow don't think producers look for locations first...and then write a show around it?

I agree. I think that it is more along the lines of "Hulu is planning a show along the lines of ******. We must do the same".

Much like the motor industry :)

Well, Fantasy Island is a reboot that got greenlit in December last year. It's not hard to imagine the pandemic closing touristy places had something to do with the timing.

What? What does that have to do with what I said?

Huh? You said people weren't looking at locations before deciding on a show. I gave an example of a probably pretty terrible show that is set in a resort - I doubt Fantasy Island goes from greenlight to in the can that fast if there wasn't a financial benefit to filming it now.

The guy who wrote White Lotus -

"HBO came to me and was hoping I could come up with some idea that was COVID-friendly and in one location, and at the time I was like, ‘How do I get out of L.A. and go somewhere that’s not like punishing?'” creator Mike White told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s premiere on Wednesday. “I was like, ‘Maybe we can do a show in a posh hotel?’ That was kind of the initial idea, then I thought there’s something I’ve always wanted to write about the leisure world and people trying to escape their lives and then ending up being more stuck in a crucible.”
