It might be worth a watching for the CGI. Star Trek Discovery is a series I watched just for the CGI.
Visuals look promising let's hope the acting matches that. Other shows have had good visuals and not so good acting. In this case the casting is going to cause some heads to explode.
More important than both the visuals or the acting is the story/writing, which at least for the first season, is going to be a horrendous mess
All the leaks that already came out highlighting the horrible adaptions they made to Tolkiens work.
Yes Tolkien's The Silmarillion. They basically just had the rights to the appendices from the main books though, but even here they deviated strongly in their design choices regarding characters, timeliness etc etc. The fact that they felt the need to invent so many new characters says a lot.

I can already the hear the (admittedly getting a bit tedious) critical drinker review and his slew of copy paste phrases.
He's not really knowledgeable about Tolkien, so perhaps after the series is out he can critique some of the more technical aspects. Although as mentioned the main issues with this show is the lore and writing not so much the production quality.
It's not just the location - it seems they also put in a lot of effort finding an ensemble of South Africans that couldn't act their way out of a paper bag.
