Servers for GTA 5 PC (Contact with Rockstar Support)

So I was asking around on various forums about GTA 5 online and if we would have a server in SA or if we would have terrible ping, making online unplayable/frustrating. I eventually contacted Rockstar support about it and this is what I got back.

I want to buy GTA 5 for PC but I was just wondering how the servers work? Will there be any servers in South Africa? Or will we have to connect from somewhere else? Also, what can I expect the ping to be like on average?

Unfortunately, we do not have information regarding your query on servers. Regarding the ping test, you may plug a PC directly into your modem and check the reports done at www.pingtest.net so that the average ping speed could be calculated. Is there no information at all regarding server locations for Grand Theft Auto 5 Online? This would be a huge blow because connecting to european servers leave me on around 200-300 ping, whereas a South African server would give me 60-100 ping.

I would appreciate any information at all even if it is bad news.

If you specifically do not have any information available to you, is there anyone I could contact that would have this kind of information?

Is it just me or does this seem like a way of avoiding telling us that there will be no servers in SA, in the hopes that we will just buy the game anyway and hope for the best?

I would suggest not pre-ordering or buying this game until it's released and someone else can see if they've wasted money or not.

I play plenty of games on European servers, even fps and they are all playable. Not really a deciding factor for me.

I know, it is so weird that they would even say that. It isn't like it is something super secret.

I don't think there are SA servers for the console versions so I doubt the PC version will have it.

Well, playing CoD Ghosts on PS4 online is fine, and there are not SA servers. In fact, if I recall correctly, there are no dedicated servers at all. Systems are quite modern these days, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have anti-lag systems etc in place to combat the ping from players all around the world.

So I'm sure GTA5 will have a similar setup to prevent lag.

They're not going to set up a server for a locale as small as ours.

Played the Online component last night briefly. It was in missions where AI was the target, but I did just as well as those I was playing with (not sure how to tell if they also had similar latency though).

Overall, driving, shooting etc was fine for me.

You should be fine. I'm playing GTA Online for about 2 months now without any problems. Just make sure you open the following ports:

TCP Ports: 80, 443
UDP Ports: 6672, 61455, 61457, 61456, and 61458

Its like politics, why would they tell you something that will make you pissed and start posting angry stuff

BTW: South Africans are not a priority in terms of gaming servers ... we will never be ; just not a huge user base in this country compared to other continents and countrys
