Setting up a VPN with ADSL & MyWireless

Hey All,

I am currently considering purchasing the MyWireless service for a remote site of our business. Before I can do that though, I need to understand how it would be possible to create a VPN of the two sites.

Our main site uses adsl and thereby our server automatically gets assigned a new IP adress every 24 hours. & thats where I foresee the problem being. Is there anyone out there who has managed to get a VPN network working in similar infrastructures?

Thanks
Alvin

Alvin,

I have been using VPN across telkoms' adsl to connect to a client in the UK. It used to work ok, now they are blocking the traffic so that it is so slow it is not useable.
If all you traffic is local it may be ok, but i would be wary of using a RF or satellite based DSL with vpn as the latency times might be too great. I have not seen or used the mywireless product. I did contact sentech ( over a month ago) and am still waiting for them to get back to me!

I think you can get around some of your problems with not having a fixed ip by registering with something like dyndns.org

i also came across a company in jhb who deal with vpn networks on adsl, but after inital contact, but again i am still waiting for them to get back i'll try and find the name.

hope this helps,

If your looking to create a VPN over MyWireless and ADSL, you have to take the following into regard,

1. No Fixed IP address, so you will have to us host names which are dynamic, however you cannot run all apps over this.

2. If you use a specific VPN proxy which we will be setting up, and releasing with another company within the week, you will be able to create a VPN tunnel weather it international or local, just remeber MyWireless adss 200ms of delay.
