SFTP (Port 22) performance

I'm just curious whether anyone uses SFTP (port 22) regularly and what kind of upload performance you manage to achieve to international servers.

I'm on a 512k line, used to get 10-20k/sec upload speed a few months ago. More recently (the last couple of months) my connection starts at around 2k/sec upload and peaks at around 9k/sec upload during the day if I'm lucky.

Today, if I'm lucky enough to connect without a timeout, I get under 1kb/sec!

I did my part and emailed Telkom at the beginning of this month. Of course I received nothing back other than a 'receipt'.

Anyone else having SFTP issues?

Hi

I connect to my web servers on port22 all the time.

I get a very good connection.

I will do a test when I get back to the office and post my speed, but from what I can remember is that its the same as FTP.

Thanks Terence.

I guess what I left out is that I only use it to connect to a dedicated server i lease in London, so the holdup could well be specific to this routing and not necessarily a greater throttling issue. I'd be interested to hear your speeds nonetheless. Thanks again!

I usually use SFTP to my server in colorado - had no issues with it. It's not fast, but it's not that slow either.

Ok. Thanks thisgeek. It seems this sluggishness is specific to my server/route.
