Shaming South African spammers: Results

Since they are happy to sell people details, why can't we publish their contact details? Someone get Mart Tribelhorn's email, phone and address! The others are next ;)

if I was a spammer, I wouldn't care less if people published my companies name on their little wall of shame... they need to create legislation and bring criminal charges against these repeat offenders like in the states. this shaming is less than useless

Dont worry ... if the new Information Bill is passed we just classify our email addresses "Top Secret" then we can put these "Bloody Agents" behind bars...see I knew the there was something good about this bill :)

Wish I could find out where this cnut lives...

I've seen a lot of SPAM from "New Heights 1268 / Jaco Derksen". They once signed up with us and tried to send SPAM off, I suspended them very quickly. I contacted their new host about the issue, but they didn't seem to care. The main thing here is that a lot of hosting companies do not care about their IP addresses getting blacklisted etc. Most companies do not look into abuse emails properly or have the technical knowledge to look through mail logs and find the source of spam that people complain about :/

That is why you use spam filtering and Content filtering on your company servers.(most Medium - Large businesses have them). So why would you look at the log's of a mail server that gets more than 10K legit mail a day and probably twice that in spam from local an international spammers? Spammers are not a stupid bunch... and move their ip's around quite allot and find almos every day new inovative way's to spam the living daylights out of your mail server..

I guess for some of these Spammers it is not a Hall of Shame, but a Hall of Fame... Coz which spammer does not want to be ontop of that list :D.

How do we get hold of the guys selling the lists. I want to test the ECT act and have them remove my email address. I will then lay a charge at the police station against the next one who sells my contact information again.

Rather go and have a beer - I tried it once, and the "person" behind the SAPS counter's response was "Huh"?

I totally agree with this list. But I wonder how they determine who gets placed on the list. I mean some of those emails I receive, like Secrets2Success and I find it very helpful. There is an unsubscribe option on there, so how does Secrets2Success get on this list? Is it based on a number of complaints from people receiving the email? I mean do any of those people actually even realise they can complain to the ISPA? Sometimes I wonder about the legitimacy of this list. ISPA have not been forthcoming with their criteria for getting 'blacklisted'.

Having said that I DO NOT condone spamming, but I also don't condone banning for no specified legal reason. What do you all think?

If you click on unsubscribe, nothing happens other that you get a hell of a lot more spam!

I say put up a small "victims fund", whoever has been spammed donate, a rand and they offer it as a prize to some crack hacker to pulverise their systems!
