If it has a removable battery cant you take it out and run it via AC only?

Yes I could. Or I could simply leave it plugged in. Not sure if this is related to a 'bulging-battery' problem -- but if it's purely because it's losing charge faster than what it should, then I'll leave things until my OCD/CUD kicks in, and I'll take it in then for the replacement... Were it not for the ridiculous courier costs via iFixit or Ebay, would do it myself...

Dont leave it plugged in, thats what causes it to become weak, you are looking at a max of R1000 from this place.

Appreciate the link. Have emailed them to confirm it will fit my model - if so, will take the plunge. Might need to shop around for one of them funny screwdrivers, but DX.com will probably have it for cheap cheap.

Will still mail Digicape etc. to confirm their prices - benefit of doing it myself, would be less downtime!

Oh - and yes, I left it plugged in too much. Force of habit - I keep on forgetting to get those battery juices flowing!

This is the one I needed - opened my MBP up to be sure, and had a look over at iFixit.

Just ordered it - and will then look at getting the battery. Looks really straightforward, so shouldn't be a problem.

You are right.

Last year and this year:

I'm quite impressed, this laptop is going on three years now, and other than some superficial marks on the chassis, it's like the day I got it. Everything still works perfectly, the keyboard shows no sign of wear despite very heavy use (I spend about as much time on it as on my desktop, and I my mid-range Microsoft/Logitech keyboards tend to last about two years before keys start to mulfunction, about a year until the letters are significantly worn away).

Money well spent...
