Hi

Can someone shed some light for me on how to properly configure shareaza for my MW256 package.

I am using a Linux/Shorewall NAT gateway, and i DNAT some ports back to my Shareaza machine.

I have (once or twice before) had decent download speeds on shareaza but for the rest (99%) of the time downloads are PAINFULLY slow.
as an example, i have a 400Mb file that i searched for in shareaza, and i selected the file with the most sources and the three green checkmarks.... but (with shareaza running 24/7) this has been downloading for 2 weeks now, and it is on 95% now.

If i could have an advanced explanation on how to configure Shareaza and which ports to open and DNAT etc etc on my firewall i would really appreciate!

Another thing i've noticed, is that as soon as i connect to the eDonkey network in Shareaza, it COMPLETELY saturates ALL my bandwidth to such an extent that it'll take about a minute on any other machine on the private network just to open google.com

I have applied the fix available for TCPIP.SYS to increase the connections to 50 as well.

One more thing i'd like to know, is if someone can shed some light on how/where to search for decent and proper torrents. I have used torrent once before, and i got really nice download speeds. but after that i just don't seem to be able to find what i'm looking for.

Your help is appreciated!
J

Although the right place to ask, too often few people look in this section. Ask in the general section for people to look here

Hi jacauc, Try searching the Off Topic section of the general (not My Wi) forum for Shareaza. I remember that we discussed it about 2-3 months ago.

(or just go here ----> http://www.myadsl.co.za/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3422 )

I would HIGHLY recommend reading the FAQ at the shareaza website as there are all sorts of little tips and tricks you can use to ensure you are connecting to all the right places and getting the right server info. (especially downloading the emule server list and also deleting discovery services for gnuttela 2 network)

Also, i recommend you use at least v 2.0 (or later) of shareaza. Personally i find Shareaza to be *very* *very* slow, but having said that you can still find all sorts of stuff that i cant find anywhere else.

I would recommend searching for the file on kazaa first, if you cant find it there then try search for a torrent with it. Failing which i would then use shareaza to download it (althou this is not the preferred choice because it is so slow)

it's sucktech's "shaping" that's killing the p2p speeds on my MW256
As soon as I start a torrent or emule, my connection goes to a halt..and I mean 200bytes/sec halt

That sounds more like your peer-to-peer app being configured with a connection limit that's more than your connection can handle, so you're killing it off by flooding it with too many connections.
