Bismarck du Plessis, Frans Steyn and Jean Deysel will have to work hard to make up for their indiscretions when they return to action for the Sharks.
The trio are currently serving bans for foul play after receiving their marching orders for various offences in matches earlier this season.
Du Plessis, the Sharks captain, was banned for four weeks after kicking an opponent in the face, while Steyn copped five weeks for a tip tackle. Deysel received seven weeks for kneeing a player in the head.
The Sharks have a bye this weekend and will head to New Zealand where they start their Australasian tour against the Highlanders in Dunedin on May 1.
Du Plessis will be available for the clash against the Highlanders, while Steyn will be able to return the following week against the Hurricanes. Deysel will only be eligible to play when the Sharks return from their tour and host the Rebels in Durban on May 29.
“The players who received cards owe the team a lot, and that’s not my words, but their own,” Gold told Netwerk24.
Gold will also have to make the decision if he wants to bring Du Plessis back as captain, as Marco Wentzel has done an adequate job, despite the team’s losing run.
The Sharks have lost three matches on the trot for the first time since 2012 and are languishing in third spot in the South African Conference and ninth position in the overall standings, having already played 10 of their 16 matches - more than any other side to date.
